It’s the first day of Autumn in 2010, so it’s only right that we give the day an appropriate soundtrack with another leak from Kokayi’s forthcoming album, ‘Robots & Dinosaurs’. [Don’t forget ‘RoxTar’].

“Autumn Rules” features Koke questioning the nature of dependency and suicide via soulfully-sung vocals layered over a dusty guitar-loop & drum combo courtesy of fellow MD-artist-in-residence, Oddisee. It’s track like these that continue to set Kokayi apart from the seemingly endless wave of ‘me-too’ posers and showcase his impressive range of talent.

Robots & Dinosaurs is available for pre-order now in standard Digipak and Deluxe Paleo-Pack editions @ RobotsNDinosaurs.com. Due to a the rules of Grammy-eligibility, the album will now be available digitally on 10.1.10. Physical copies still ship 10.19.10.

Great song! Unlike anything I’ve heard from Kokayi before; I’m really digging the melancholy sound. The song almost has a TV on the Radio vibe to it.

That might just be the reason why there seems to be a couple of people being like “I’m on the fence about Kokayi”. His sound and style are truly unique, he breaks the mold.. and those people are just too used to hearing the same stuff over and over so when Kokayi comes on, they’re confused or something haha..

Anyway, I think Kokayi is really an innovator and he’s taking the hiphop sound in a new direction and I hope the world, one day, realizes that.

^ Yo don’t use that term round here I don’t think people appreciate it haha. I’m pretty sure that any given Qn5* fan wouldn’t be listening to “the same stuff over and over again” but on the other hand kokayi is a new artist in the lineup so a little skepticism is understandable for someone who’s never been on like a CL or Pack FM project. But either way, we’ve been won over and will purchase the album lol.
