Substantial refuses to take any time off, returning with his new single, “U Were There (ft. JsouL)”, produced by DMV beatsmith, Joe.D (of Dirty Water). To add even more flavor to the sauce, Big Tune Beat Battle (Seattle) Champ, Marcus D. comes through with an inescapably silky remix that would make Sade proud.

“U Were There” is taken from from Substantial’s forthcoming mixtape, WINK (Something Substantial), which will take listeners on a 10-year journey of Substantial’s music, focusing mainly on his his love/relationship songs. From throwback classics like the Nujabes-produced “Eclipse”, to 3 ALL NEW EXCLUSIVE SONGS to add to the fire. I love all the Stan/Marcus D. tracks, but I’m actually diggin the Joe.D version a lil more in this case.

The mixtape sounds like a great idea. Kno hosting a mixtape is always a good thing. I was laughing my ass off to him on the EmTre mixtape last week.

This mixtape sounds a lil more serious, but still, lookin forward to it.

The flow is a ridiculous display of rhythm. I also like the delivery on this track - it’s something different I really haven’t heard from you before- especially the end of the 1st verse when the synth part comes in and beginning of 2nd verse. The lyrics are honest and I’m sure universal to many many men and women. Both beats are dope as well.

That guy Marcus D is crazy! Don’t you people agree? He changes the beat up like crazy. Using different kinds of melodies and drums throughout the track!
