Blue Schooler-Made ‘Masochist’ Tee

As a visual artist myself, it’s the ultimate compliment when I see that my music inspires other visual artists to create something on their own. I had a bit of a rough day yesterday, but this morning I got an email from a blue schooler named Rob, that set my day off on a good note. I figured I’d share it with y’all:

Hey Tone,
I’ve attached a few images of a t-shirt I created based solely around a lyric of yours that I thought may be of interest to you. Last year I produced a small line of t-shirts for a university project that i set myself. Each t-shirt was created by myself from the ground up, including the cut & sew of each piece and the thought process behind each graphic. I’ve always been inspired by your work, your outlook on life and, more importantly, your work ethic. This t-shirt in particular includes a line of yours from ‘Masochist’ and is double layered. The material on the outside is raw silk, it has a rough denim-like feel to it and underneath is a second t-shirt. They are stitched together on the front with rounded squares that you can cut and “peel the surface to reveal” the colourful, abstract under-layer. The quote is screen printed on the lower back of the t-shirt.
None of the shirts I created ever went into mass production or were ever sold, they were all 1-offs.
Anyway, I just hoped this mail would put a smile on your face and let you know how much of an inspiration you are to me. Thank you for your music.

I think the shit looks hella fresh and he definitely matched the feel of the song. The raw-silk overlay to multicolored underlying fabric is a brilliant way to convey the lyrics. I definitely dig the font used on the quote as well. In my response, I thanked him for not selling the shirt. (Bootleggers take note!). All of us at QN5 encourage any other blue schoolers who just so happen to be visual artists to express themselves creatively however they see fit. We’d love to see what you come up with.
