The 2008 Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest (CHHSF) will take place Saturday, July 26, 2008 from 11am-8pm. The event is sponsored by Liberated Muse Productions DC Parks and Recreation and Washington Parks and People.

CHHSF was conceived by Liberated Muse Productions as a way to showcase soul and hip hop musical acts in the DC metropolitan area. The CHHSF provides a forum for the DC area’s up and coming artists to perform while building awareness of area nonprofit organizations which are invited to facilitate activities during the festival.

This year, the CHHSF will promote the theme “Vote For Soul” which will be the moniker used to encourage participants to register to vote. The CHHSF has no national party affiliation. A full listing of all participating organizations and vendors will be posted closer to the festival date. The Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest is part of a movement toward bringing to the forefront true artistry with the hope that our efforts will downplay and overshadow the promotion and commercialization of cultural music.

This year’s festival performers will be included in a compilation CD sold at the festival to raise proceeds for the maintenance of the Marvin Gaye Park, named after DC’s legendary hometown artist Marvin Gaye.
