QN5 MEGASHOW 2007 (8.10.07) :: Official Megashow Recap Thread ::

So…as you can tell from how quickly this post came out, I bounced right after the show ended

I found out one of my friend’s parents were about to throw a fit ‘cause they thought he’d be home earlier, and since I was the one who arranged our trip I guiltily rushed us all into the car without thinking

So first and foremost, apologies to everyone I met during JS-1’s set—especially to Kags, who I had an awesome time shouting lines and getting hype with for basically the entire show—for not at least saying “bye”...slipped my mind in the heat of the moment, feel stupid, etc etc Sad

That said…I did get to chat with Substantial at the ATM prior to the show, and I also got to talk to Kno for a bit…which was cool.

The show itself was, simply, unbelievable…I’m gonna sleep on it before I write, but…

Wow.

(PS Yellow Lines and Sire on Sampler CD = gogogo)

shit was straight fire son
best show ive ever been to
i only got to talk with kno, sos, substantial, and session after the show though, this dude tonedeff dissapeared =[

shit was mad crazy though, i didnt recognize any of you mutha fuckas though, well a few….i think…..

tone wasn’t feeling my tie

and wow, those Inverse songs were fuckin bumpin

what do the new tonedeff shirts look like?

or when he said “new” did he mean the monotony shirts, just more of them?

it’s a different color. there were a couple new shirts at the show

chris said:it’s a different color. there were a couple new shirts at the show

anything thats a new design (not just a different color)? I already have a monotony shirt, but I can use a new one

who was the special guest?

yeah, there’s some new designs. I guess whatever’s left will be thrown on the site at some point - not really sure.

someone who does a real recap can let you know about the special guests

(PS Yellow Lines and Sire on Sampler CD = gogogo)

I take it “Sire” is also from Dirty Acres?

Sire is off of the new PackFM and Domingo album “I Fucking Hate Rappers”.

The show was awesome, and everyone gave fuckin’ dope performances. Before the show I asked Stan if he was a rapper.

The show (performances) started off with Inverse who did a couple of songs, then Poison Pen came out. He did shots of plastic bottles with the crowd, and performed some songs off of his Pick Your Poison album. Then after a while the show kicked in, with SOS starting the proceedings off (I think). He did “Welcome to Planet Earth”, “As the Globe Turns”, PackFM came out and they did “Start-Stop”, “T.H.E.Y”, and a new joint off Dr. Strangelove. After that Session came out and performed (My memory is shot as to the order, blame it on no sleep and my brain being rotted from marathon sessions of watching bukkake films). Session peformed “Chea!”, “You Ain’t Shit”, Poison Pen came out and did “Oh Snap”, and he ended the performance with “Don’t Do It”.

Intermission with an Akomplish clothing video on the making of their “brilliant” Waldo Strip pole shirt, complete with an animated waldo saying outlandish thing not normal for his character, and bitches who claim that the wayward traveler propositioned them for sex… it wasn’t really funny or interesting. After that some ladies came out and modeled their season six line of clothing (if you a pseudo-hipster this shit should be right up your alley).

Then performances started again with Substantial coming out and performing “Walk on Water Freestyle”, “Starving Artist”, “What You Want”, “House Party”, Kno came out and backed up Stan while he did “That Damn Good”, and he ended with a acapella from a song off Sacrifice.

Next up was PackFM came out and performed everything off of WhutduzFMstand4? san Ugly Women, even Excuses with iCon via webcam. After Pack, Tone came out and performed, he started off with “Pervert” which included pulling an Akon(?). After that I sorta forgot the order of songs, but songs he performed were “Optimist”, “Move In Ride Out”, “Porcelain”, “Spanish Song”, “Clear Em’ Out”, “Ridiculous”, “Masochist”, “Case Closed”, “ISSHAWN”, and “The Gates”.

After Tone’s set ended, Pack, Session, and Stan rejoined the stage and they performed “Line Drop” and “Fuck You I Rhyme Better”. It was wonderful to see EF@MM perform. Then Cunninlynguists came out. They started off with “Hellfire”, then moved into “Since When”, “Nothing to Give”, “Beautiful Girl”, Kno brought out a baby doll with QN5 written on it and then Natti performed “Baby”, They then launched into a new joint from Dirty Acres “The Park”. They performed “Lynguistics”, and “Thugged Out Since Cubscouts”. After that Tonedeff joined them on stage and they performed “616 Rewind”, then “Love Ain’t” with SOS kicking his verse off the remix at the end, they then launched into “Nasty Filthy”, “The South”, and ended with “Seasons” where Masta Ace joined them on stage.

The show ended with Ace performing “Born to Roll”, and Kynfolk performing “Walk Through the Hood”.

^how could you forget the amazing start off with Fifth Gear

INeedMoney said:^how could you forget the amazing start off with Fifth Gear

Not sure, but it looks as if I did.

Sire is off of the new PackFM and Domingo album “I Fucking Hate Rappers”.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

thanks for the write-up, None.

I’m sure others will add stuff, but that was well done.

MASTA ACE??!?!?!?! oh man, that’s cool.

DOPE DOPE DOPE. there was no better way to end the show than having masta ace perform.. incredible. efamm was HYPE and of course cl rocked it, with sos and all.

Arrite, here is my experience:

I like to keep posts positive, but I’m gonna keep it real: NY Crowd > L.A. (any day of the week)

A megashow is a megashow and no matter what I’m going to have a fun time cos it’s a once a year experience and this is my favorite music label, but in all honesty- this was my least favorite one.

First.. Shoutouts to all the west coast cats I met. AK and Gregory, way to come from Seattle and rep some fuckin enthusiasm. I saw you guys dancing in the front. Dwilli, miss dwilli, Chris, Pretendgirl, destruct, it was nice meeting you all and as expected ya’ll also showed love to the artists, but damn… If you weren’t a forum member… you were just “too fuckin cool” I was getting heated at one point. What the fuck was the rest of the front row doing?? Fuckin looked like they were on a field trip staring at the fish tank and shit. Dance! Fuckin show enthusiasm or if you’re too cool then get the fuck out.

Inverse came out and that was my first time seeing them. I fuckin loved it, but ayo… THEY ARE FROM CALI and fans are all fuckin shy and shit. Eventually more started showing love, but shiitt.

Poison Pen came out and me and the NY cats loved it. I forget his boy’s name, but dude had me laughing when he sang/shouted the hook and then said, “Off Key!” Haha, them dudes were fun. Session came on next and dude seemed lost, but he managed to pull through. One thing about this show was that there was a lot of miscommunication and some performances dudes were even missing some lines, but they all managed to make up for it and still come dope. That comment may sound negative, but I mean it is what it is and I love this label so the fans who care ARE going to notice that.

Akomplice Advertising
So they had a big screen on the stage. I liked that idea and they did a lot of cool/funny stuff (which I’ll get into later). Waldo in the strip club was funny, but the girls stole the show. GIRLS NUMBER #1,2(twins?), and 4 were SMOKING!

5th GEAR was a dope way to introduce everyone. Right when SOS came out dudes who were familiar with the song were all vibing. Dope.

Substantial
It’s gotta be hard when you’re first album isn’t out yet and you gotta come perform out on the other side of the country where people are probably not familiar with your songs unless they have been fans for a minute. Stan killed it. Stage presence and everything. I personally enjoyed the acapellas the most. Once again, fuckin L.A. fans who looked like extras from Dawn of the Dead were just staring at him like they’ve never seen a braided man before. Dude killed it and covered a lot of dope tracks. HOUSE PARTY SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HOUSE PARTY. But ay, I didn’t fly from Jersey to worry about the other fans. I danced my ace off. He also covered What U Want which is one of my fav tracks. One thing that bothered me was the bass during his set. They had it a bit to high at one point to where you couldn’t hear him, but once they fixed it, he killed.

Pack
Sick(as far health). Sick (as far as performance) Dude doesn’t need excuses. HE KILLED IT. I didn’t really get to see ya after since they were in a rush in getting people out, but I really wanted to give you daps. YOU’RE THE FUCKIN MAN. Stomp,,Free-Esta, I think almost his whole fuckin album. He started the party and finally had the zombies at least looking like they were clawing for prey. Towards the end of his set Pack stopped the music and said, “Yo. This is not an ordinary fuckin show!” That made me happy. Someone had to wake the people up. Pack killed it and his passion is inspiring and dude shocks me everytime I see him perform. Next was Tone…

Tonedeff
I can’t imagine all the time he put in and all the hair he lost and curses he slurred months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds before the show and only he actually knows how hard he works to make sure all of us fans enjoy the show that he tries to put together. First off, when I say this was my least favorite show, it’s nothing against you Tone. It’s things that are not under your control so anyways here’s how is set was: FUCKIN AMAZING. Dude comes out and is clearly a fan favorite. Dude is just a performer. He brought a new personality to the show and only picked up from where Pack left off. Dude made us all laugh with his pussy cat song. The humor started the set alone. Next, killing time. By this point I had moved to the other side of the stage near where JS1 was (Who also killed it. He was scratching some bananas before the show; U2, dj shadow, funk..really good stuff) Tone did all the songs you can ask for.. (Though I know we coulda used Punk, but it’s all good) He dove into the crowd along with Pack. He flowed his butt off. He danced. He rapped to an innocent girl’s vagina. I couldn’t find ya after the show and I know everytime I usually give you the same old, “fuckin amazing,” but you really care about everything that happens in your music world and it shows. Thanks to you and the rest of the QN5 fam for putting the show together. Favorite: Optimist, Porcelain, Issawn, and THE GATES…which lead to CunninLynguists.

CunninLynguists
Now Tone performed the Gates with a sky background on the screen. He was kneeling down adding to the theatrics of the performance. After the song ended he was sent to hell. It was intnese. Whoever dressed as death had candles n ish. That lead to Damnation. JS played the whole sample and got everyone’s adrennaline going. Then HELLFIRE! Fuckin awesome transition. CL fuckin killed it. ALL THREE OF THOSE DUDES ARE HELLAFUCKINRETARDEDGOOD (for sake of cali slang). Natti performed Baby as well. Dude’s brought out Mr. SOS for some tracks and they did all the songs you’d like, but aside from the set what I loved the most was their chemistry and how well they perform each song. They don’t miss a word. They don’t have any miscommunication. I really don’t know how to put it in words, but their sets are just always really professional and I think that’s what helps them kill it. They look like they’ve been doing it forever and even Natti who is the newest member, performs every song like its his last. Dirty Acres song that they covered was MAD CHILL. I was trying to avoid hearing the lyrics haha. I don’t want anymore spoilers for this album. Although that’s easier said than done. More on their set when I get Masta Ace.. Wink

Efamm
SICKK. L.A. dug their debut. I think everyone had their middle finger up during Fuck You I Rhyme Better from fanboys/girls to zombies to bartenders. Good shit. I was happy they came out cos’ I wanted to see more of stan and session. They did their thing.

Masta Ace
First time seeing him live. It wasn’t a surprise for me cos Zero and I spotted him walking with Session earilier in the day, but still.. DOPE. Seasons got everyone hyped. It’s great how everyone knows Ace’s verse word for word. Him and the rest of the gang held it down for that track. Then Ace even did a lil set of his own. Smile

On the Screen
FUNNIEST MOMENT- “Hip-Hop is Dead”.

Yo, can this go on YouTube? Seriously… Tone basically narrated a small documentary on different people accross the globe who felt Hip-Hop was Dead. Except this was a parody on your average pimpled face suburban white boy who just graduated 8th grade and thinks he knows it all under his ‘cool’ screename/username. Honestly, to get into this would take paragraphs, so I’m just hoping someone else does it with a better memory or the video can actually go on YouTube. IT WAS FUCKIN FUNNY. Even Tay Zonday makes an apperance Laughing It’s cool to see how these guys go out of their way for a video that doesn’t have to be done just for the entertainment of the fans. Gotta love it.

Arrite, Zero is playing fifa and I’m just being mad anti-social right now, so I’m gonna head out. (excuse to ignore any grammatical errors and ‘hard to read’ paragraphs) But that’s my recap for this year’s show. I’m sure I left out mad ish so I hope the rest of ya’ll share yours as well. To those who I met for first time, good looks. To those who were too shy to say what’s up (and we all fuckin know there were a bunch of you, cos no way there are that many ppl who own akomplice tees and qn5 tees that aren’t on the boards, lmao) NYC peoples- the realest. Just wish we coulda all gotten in the front earlier.

Thanks QN5. It’s so sad when the show ends. Sad

Quick Edit: SunnyStylzes, Kynfolk…chea! Just watch the videos.
Pack covered Excuses with iCON on the screen. Cool

chea^

i gotta admit i too was a bit frustrated at most of the people just sitting down and just posting, but i thought it was just the people that flew out here and didnt really feel that situated in the are….but iono…i never been to any shows in NYC so i dunno how the crowd it

and yes, pleaseeeeeeeee tone upload that Hip Hop Is Dead documentary

and i cant say its my least favorite…since….its the only Megashow ive been able to go to since it was so easily accessable for me, but i loved it personally, really fuckin glad it was out here this year

loooove you kags. wtf with the front row… i seriously saw some guy yawn in the middle of pack’s set. and not like “i’m really tired from driving across the country” yawn, but he started to yawn and then sort of looked around the room and eventually decided to look back at the stage. mrs. dwilli elbowed her way to the front and even helped me work my way in, but the guy next to me was really mad and kept elbowing me in the totally on purpose accidental way. he was like 6 ft tall and when I tried to edge him out he wound up just edging out the chick he was with. so lame.

i missed tonedeff Sad i don’t know where he went after the show but I got to talk to everyone else, except for natti who was ignoring me.

highlights of my night: kno giving me the QN5 baby (seriously, it’s sittin here in my hotel room) and then telling me to stop calling him. masta ace asking “MC ZZ” to ask me to bring him cookies. meeting my new life partner, Mrs. Deff. hearing Tone perform Ridiculous. that’s all I’ve got for now.

wtf destruct? I wanted to meet you Sad

Great write up None,
and Kags… REALLY great re-cap!

Thanks so much both of you. Smile

well I know culov got the sampler CD…

What’s good ya’ll…

Just got back from a long 18hr drive from LA to Seattle. Hopefully I’ll be able to post a recap before I work tonight…an eight hour shift lol (but it was definetly worth it). I have no internet at the house so I’m on the sidekick now. Prob stop by the parents for the recaps.

Thanks for everyones recap so far!!

Yeah, the front row was pathetic. Everything else was crazy though. amazing show

big deal, officer. hopefully someone repays me the favor next time the shows in ny.

I thought the dead crowd was a Seattle thing. I know we show love with just the head nod, you get a hot hand and your killin it. But damn the crowd was lame. Everyone killed it. It was funny because we didnt expect Tone to do Hit Em Up and I was telling Grammer that I used to know the words because I used to play it every day…..like 3 years ago, so memory deminished from alot of weed I let Tone down(sorry buddy) and looked like a jack ass remembering nothing after the first few bars.

I was pumped because I got one of the bottles from Poison Pen which is a cool suvenier, I immediately gave it to my friends who like retards shared the shot and a half. Pen was hella cool we were stomping together, he almost killed the girl we came with. It was like watching a blacker gullier juggernaught run over a child. While I wanted to save her I was like “hes fucking huge, with momentum, not a chance.” Pack killed it even with a sickness. My friend luis who was drunk and facsinated(sp?) with his chain kept trying to touch it and touching it (sorry pack we tried to stop him, surprised you didnt deck him).

Tone killed, everyone killed it. The pack and Icon thing was a good idea, difficult to execute but from a creative standpoint I liked it. Cl was off the hook. Shouts to Chris, Kags, Dwilli and the Mrs. Stay up i gotta get ready for work.

i hate every single one of you that was there. seriously. Crying or Very sad
