Stef: hahaha i remember a girl asking me like “do you love tonedeff?!?” and then told me to dance i think lol, if that was you then yah you scared me…hahha
Kags: nah its my 3rd QN5 show, lol yah, ah well…next time
haha yeah… my assumption was that if u werent dancing u didnt love tonedeff and that shits not cool!
I fall into the category of people who were just too damn tired at the show. The show was great but i was exhausted by the time the show started. I was the tall 6’8 guy in the back. I got was in the crowd for JS-1, Tonedeff, and CL but the rest of the time I was just gathering strength in near the back. I ended up spending most my money on gas just getting to the show. I literally had 60 bucks to my name when i showed up. Still ended up buying a shirt and apparently 1of2 Asterisk 4 CDs. Bought it at the start and was last one they had, glad i went up early to buy it. A guy behind me started offering me money to get it. Loved all the sets, gonna have to find some Poison Pen, PackFM, and Substantial stuff now. The amazing thing is I made it to Vegas with only 30 bucks. Gonna have to plan better next time. Slept in my car 7/8 nights on the road and ate like 4 meals over 8 days. Still worth the trip, but i was kinda expecting the place to be packed especially seeing as RTB was, Still great show.

Haha snowy, i imagine you making it to vegas dead broke and out of gas, and fishing out a crumpled up 20 out of your pocket and having to gamble up enough money to make it to LA.
Nah i had some relatives in Vegas that I stayed with for a day than they thankfully took pity on me and gave me some cash so i could make the 2 1/2 day drive home.
As I intended to get around to before now, I just wanted to thank QN5 and all of the artists who performed at my first ever Megashow. The shit was INCREDIBLE (this all goes without saying of course), and I will NEVER forget it nor be grateful enough that I made the decision to attend. All of the recaps are on point, props to the people who wrote them. I will make it a priority to make it there next year for sure!
Also, a HUGE thanks to that ill ass clique that I kicked it with. Jill, Dan, Chris, and Dave, very good people! And Chris buying up all of those copies of y’alls albums at the show to support by giving them away to potential fans should earn him Aulalarian of the Month award or somethin’! And Domingo is a funny ass dude, cat had me rollin’. SOS, Phayde, Substantial, it was a pleasure meeting you all. Wish there’d been an afterparty so I could’ve met and talked to more of the artists AND that I didn’t have to leave in the morning so early, but I’m just glad I was able to attend at all. Looking forward to ALL future music for real. Kno is one of the greatest, easily.
I like to keep posts positive, but I’m gonna keep it real: NY Crowd > L.A. (any day of the week)
A megashow is a megashow and no matter what I’m going to have a fun time cos it’s a once a year experience and this is my favorite music label, but in all honesty- this was my least favorite one.
First.. Shoutouts to all the west coast cats I met. AK and Gregory, way to come from Seattle and rep some fuckin enthusiasm. I saw you guys dancing in the front. Dwilli, miss dwilli, Chris, Pretendgirl, destruct, it was nice meeting you all and as expected ya’ll also showed love to the artists, but damn… If you weren’t a forum member… you were just “too fuckin cool” I was getting heated at one point. What the fuck was the rest of the front row doing?? Fuckin looked like they were on a field trip staring at the fish tank and shit. Dance! Fuckin show enthusiasm or if you’re too cool then get the fuck out.
Inverse came out and that was my first time seeing them. I fuckin loved it, but ayo… THEY ARE FROM CALI and fans are all fuckin shy and shit. Eventually more started showing love, but shiitt.
Poison Pen came out and me and the NY cats loved it. I forget his boy’s name, but dude had me laughing when he sang/shouted the hook and then said, “Off Key!” Haha, them dudes were fun. Session came on next and dude seemed lost, but he managed to pull through. One thing about this show was that there was a lot of miscommunication and some performances dudes were even missing some lines, but they all managed to make up for it and still come dope. That comment may sound negative, but I mean it is what it is and I love this label so the fans who care ARE going to notice that.
Akomplice Advertising
So they had a big screen on the stage. I liked that idea and they did a lot of cool/funny stuff (which I’ll get into later). Waldo in the strip club was funny, but the girls stole the show. GIRLS NUMBER #1,2(twins?), and 4 were SMOKING!
5th GEAR was a dope way to introduce everyone. Right when SOS came out dudes who were familiar with the song were all vibing. Dope.
Substantial
It’s gotta be hard when you’re first album isn’t out yet and you gotta come perform out on the other side of the country where people are probably not familiar with your songs unless they have been fans for a minute. Stan killed it. Stage presence and everything. I personally enjoyed the acapellas the most. Once again, fuckin L.A. fans who looked like extras from Dawn of the Dead were just staring at him like they’ve never seen a braided man before. Dude killed it and covered a lot of dope tracks. HOUSE PARTY SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HOUSE PARTY. But ay, I didn’t fly from Jersey to worry about the other fans. I danced my ace off. He also covered What U Want which is one of my fav tracks. One thing that bothered me was the bass during his set. They had it a bit to high at one point to where you couldn’t hear him, but once they fixed it, he killed.
Pack
Sick(as far health). Sick (as far as performance) Dude doesn’t need excuses. HE KILLED IT. I didn’t really get to see ya after since they were in a rush in getting people out, but I really wanted to give you daps. YOU’RE THE FUCKIN MAN. Stomp,,Free-Esta, I think almost his whole fuckin album. He started the party and finally had the zombies at least looking like they were clawing for prey. Towards the end of his set Pack stopped the music and said, “Yo. This is not an ordinary fuckin show!” That made me happy. Someone had to wake the people up. Pack killed it and his passion is inspiring and dude shocks me everytime I see him perform. Next was Tone…
Tonedeff
I can’t imagine all the time he put in and all the hair he lost and curses he slurred months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds before the show and only he actually knows how hard he works to make sure all of us fans enjoy the show that he tries to put together. First off, when I say this was my least favorite show, it’s nothing against you Tone. It’s things that are not under your control so anyways here’s how is set was: FUCKIN AMAZING. Dude comes out and is clearly a fan favorite. Dude is just a performer. He brought a new personality to the show and only picked up from where Pack left off. Dude made us all laugh with his pussy cat song. The humor started the set alone. Next, killing time. By this point I had moved to the other side of the stage near where JS1 was (Who also killed it. He was scratching some bananas before the show; U2, dj shadow, funk..really good stuff) Tone did all the songs you can ask for.. (Though I know we coulda used Punk, but it’s all good) He dove into the crowd along with Pack. He flowed his butt off. He danced. He rapped to an innocent girl’s vagina. I couldn’t find ya after the show and I know everytime I usually give you the same old, “fuckin amazing,” but you really care about everything that happens in your music world and it shows. Thanks to you and the rest of the QN5 fam for putting the show together. Favorite: Optimist, Porcelain, Issawn, and THE GATES…which lead to CunninLynguists.
CunninLynguists
Now Tone performed the Gates with a sky background on the screen. He was kneeling down adding to the theatrics of the performance. After the song ended he was sent to hell. It was intnese. Whoever dressed as death had candles n ish. That lead to Damnation. JS played the whole sample and got everyone’s adrennaline going. Then HELLFIRE! Fuckin awesome transition. CL fuckin killed it. ALL THREE OF THOSE DUDES ARE HELLAFUCKINRETARDEDGOOD (for sake of cali slang). Natti performed Baby as well. Dude’s brought out Mr. SOS for some tracks and they did all the songs you’d like, but aside from the set what I loved the most was their chemistry and how well they perform each song. They don’t miss a word. They don’t have any miscommunication. I really don’t know how to put it in words, but their sets are just always really professional and I think that’s what helps them kill it. They look like they’ve been doing it forever and even Natti who is the newest member, performs every song like its his last. Dirty Acres song that they covered was MAD CHILL. I was trying to avoid hearing the lyrics haha. I don’t want anymore spoilers for this album. Although that’s easier said than done. More on their set when I get Masta Ace.. Wink
Efamm
SICKK. L.A. dug their debut. I think everyone had their middle finger up during Fuck You I Rhyme Better from fanboys/girls to zombies to bartenders. Good shit. I was happy they came out cos’ I wanted to see more of stan and session. They did their thing.
Masta Ace
First time seeing him live. It wasn’t a surprise for me cos Zero and I spotted him walking with Session earilier in the day, but still.. DOPE. Seasons got everyone hyped. It’s great how everyone knows Ace’s verse word for word. Him and the rest of the gang held it down for that track. Then Ace even did a lil set of his own. Smile
On the Screen
FUNNIEST MOMENT- “Hip-Hop is Dead”.
Yo, can this go on YouTube? Seriously… Tone basically narrated a small documentary on different people accross the globe who felt Hip-Hop was Dead. Except this was a parody on your average pimpled face suburban white boy who just graduated 8th grade and thinks he knows it all under his ‘cool’ screename/username. Honestly, to get into this would take paragraphs, so I’m just hoping someone else does it with a better memory or the video can actually go on YouTube. IT WAS FUCKIN FUNNY. Even Tay Zonday makes an apperance Laughing It’s cool to see how these guys go out of their way for a video that doesn’t have to be done just for the entertainment of the fans. Gotta love it.
Arrite, Zero is playing fifa and I’m just being mad anti-social right now, so I’m gonna head out. (excuse to ignore any grammatical errors and ‘hard to read’ paragraphs) But that’s my recap for this year’s show. I’m sure I left out mad ish so I hope the rest of ya’ll share yours as well. To those who I met for first time, good looks. To those who were too shy to say what’s up (and we all fuckin know there were a bunch of you, cos no way there are that many ppl who own akomplice tees and qn5 tees that aren’t on the boards, lmao) NYC peoples- the realest. Just wish we coulda all gotten in the front earlier.
Thanks QN5. It’s so sad when the show ends. Sad
Quick Edit: SunnyStylzes, Kynfolk…chea! Just watch the videos.
Pack covered Excuses with iCON on the screen.
Great write up. Some people might not appreciate your honesty as much. But It was all in good intentions I would believe.
