General Discussion THA OFFICIAL PUT ME ON 2 SUM NEW MUSIC THREAD

http://tinyurl.com/ghostladyepCocaine 80s has two EPs that I’ve been playing on the regular. No I.D. produces, Common rhymes, James Fauntleroy sings (I’d like to see more from him, but looks like he makes money writing, producing and providing vocals for others).

thanks chris, dope!

i find I like his videos more than his music, sometimes.

I’ve thought CL should make a music video like that using the footage they undoubtedly have.

I’m surprised this guy hasn’t been mentioned. Seeing as we appreciate the rapper/singer/producer in Tonedeff, I think you guys would appreciate the same in David Hodges.

One of the artists I would love Tone to work with.

I miss see jane rhyme. Sad

i put this on my facebook page too - Tunji recommended these guys to Shake of 2dopeboyz (the guy who has toured recently with CL a lot and taken the live photos) who posted them a few months ago. they now have released their full album. it’s like a soul version of The Roots. or a more layered, dreamier & poppier Little Dragon.

in other words it’s totally fucking gorgeous

^—- trophies is an awesome album, ordered that on wax and cd, if you haven’t heard trophies yet, wake up.

^^song is dope!!!

the instrumental of Apollo Brown and OC - Angels Sing, that is

I didn’t know where to post this since the “songs like gathered” thread closed.

But.. this song is so fucking haunting and beautiful, it’s worth checking out. I’ve had in on repeat for like 30 minutes.

Tone, I think you’d like this. I’d I know I’d love a Peter Anthony Red cover of it Wink

That OC and Apollo Brown CD is amazing. If anyone hasn’t heard OC’s first album Word… Life, I highly recommend it. In my opinion, it is one of the top 5 best hip hop albums of all time.

I know many of you will probably be skeptical of this because it may not seem like “sophisticated” hip hop in your eyes, but I enjoyed this new release by Brave.

This singer, rapper, and spoken word poet is an ex-member of a group called RichGirl and she’s been working on her solo album “Brave New World” for a while now. She just released a music video for a new song “Break Me Down.”

I dunno, I enjoyed it, and I hope she can become a face for female hip hop artists…

Forget new music, lately I’ve been trying to get away from all the new music and focus on stuff from my heyday (mid-to-late nineties hip-hop).

I always listen to so much new music that I don’t go back and listen to my personal favorites from the past enough.

For anyone into house/dub-music! This is amazing - just saw the live show last saturday.. Playing, mixing, singing throughout the show

Rangleklods - Beekeeper

this isn’t new, but I just found out about it and I don’t think it’s been talked about yet.

Eligh & Amp Live - Therapy at 3

Came out in 2011, but I listened to a few songs and this shit is a MUST BUY! The production is as amazing as the rapping, seriously.

Oddisee - “People Hear What They See”

I cannot reccomend this album enough.

Also check out his free EP “Odd Renditions”

And peep any Mello Music Group release for that matter.

I just got into El-P last week, what an amazing artist. His music is not something you like on first listen, but very rewarding the more you listen.

The jig is up, fantastic song.

Hmmmm, I like some of his production but I just can’t get myself to listen to him rap. Same way I feel about J Cole.

In other news, I realized ‘Muddy Waters’ is my favorite Redman album, check it out.

Really haven’t had a chance to delve into it but I like it so far.

I could perfectly understand why one would not like El-P much. I think he’s beast though, behind the boards and on the mic.

But how come you had this sudden realisation, Muddy Waters been around for some time.

Not *that* Muddy Waters! Smile

I’m going back to my roots and hitting up albums from the mid to late 90s. Normally, I’m always listening to new music.

The passed few weeks I’ve been going through the entire Redman discography. I’d heard most of his stuff but before this month I only owned Dare Iz a Darkside, Malpractice, & Red Gone Wild. Now with my collection complete, I realized Muddy Waters is by far my favorite album from him. Favorite tracks: Rock Da Spot, Pick it Up, Smoke Buddah, and Do What ya Feel w/ Meth.

The average QN5er fan is probably a bit younger than me and several people here are from overseas, no reason why I wouldn’t want to highlight some classics from the 90’s that they may have missed.

Next up I’m listening to all of the Wu solo albums.

Totally understand. I started listening to hiphop in 04, which is both a gift and a curse. Gift: there was and still is 30 years of hiphop to discover, which I have been doing since then. Still happy as a child when I find something that totally blows me away (like Cunninlynguists did 1,5 years ago, and El-P does now)
Curse: I wasn’t there when all the awesome shit in the 90’s happened. I was born at least 10 years late for that.
