General Discussion Iowa Caucus

Huckabee takes it for the Republicans. Never saw that coming. Thoughts?

P.S. Word to Barack taking the Democratic nod. That’s a big move for him.

yessss

I’m surprised about Huckabee as well. I guess Chuck Norris really helped him out. About the Dem. party, I’m a Kucinich kind of guy. I’d like Obama to get more experience before he leads the country.

...that’s all I got…

I like Kucinich, but I doubt that he’ll win the nomination. I’d rather have Obama win it over Hillary, though.

I absolutely detest Huckabee; I do not want a man who doesn’t believe in evolution, supports women being completely subservient to their husbands, and wants to take America “back to Jesus” as president. I like my politics and religion separate damnit!

denny sed 4 his supporters 2 give their votes 2 barack obama….i think he might choose denny as a vice pres., that wud b dope…..btw, i dont believe that smear article about kucinich bein a racist, i just think dude pandered 2 a certain ethnic minority like all politicians do

Kucinich is a fine man, but not nearly capable of getting the votes needed. I don’t even think vice-presidency is in his sights. My friend and I are thinking Edwards will be getting the vice-nod; Hillary’s slipping, and I can’t see her as a vice. As much as I’m not a fan of him, Edwards is far more marketable. As far as Barack, I love the guy. And I rarely say that about politicians. He’s just a fresh breath of air from normal politicians, (seemingly) willing to stick with his convictions rather than the think tank’s. Then again, maybe I’m just seeing it from an up-in-the-clouds point of view.

As for Huckabee, fuck him. That’s a joke. He’s a backward, intolerant extremist who fools people with a warm, friendly teddy-bear persona. It’s very misleading.

Laughing

I’m perpetually entertained by how athiest/secular/socially liberal, fiscal conservatives support Republicanism while declaring George W. Bush was a poor representation of Republican values. The claim is that his bullshit will somehow damage the party’s chances in ‘08.

Newsflash: when your best candidate is someone who wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, openly claims that “my faith doesn’t influence my decisions, it drives them,” plans to eliminate all federal taxes (LOL), and is ready to support a constitutional amendment against gay marriage, maybe you’ve just got the wrong fucking idea about what your party represents.

Edit: Just FYI this wasn’t really directed as a jab at anyone here. Just a thought I’ve been having whilst conversing with a couple of people.

Ron Paul for the loss.

All the years he’s gone on the Daily Show & Bill Maher’s show too… always coming off as this nice, personable guy who had human interest stories (he lost a ton of weight) that people can relate to…

without people knowing what he was really all about. Yuck.

this needs 2 b tha official presidency post & arete’s post needs 2 b merged w/ this 1.

so kucinich is probly out as a vp, wat about bill richardson??....i wud prefer kucinich but richardson is a good choice also

as far as the ‘doesn’t have enough experience’ rebuttal goes… what has experience done for most of the politicos out there besides make em corrupt and willing to cave in to lobbyists for a dolla dolla bill…? Just my take, and i’m not too big into politics.

Not enough experience??? I don’t think experience is that important for this gig. How hard can this job be? Look how has been doing it for the last eight years.

(sorry I have to offload all my “George Bush Jr is a stupid fucking douchnozzle” pictures before Nov. I just figured I’d get it out of the way now. Wink )

Are there any republicans, or anyone that believes that one of the republican candidates are the best choice? I know QN5 is a progressive crew, but you’re allowed to be republican here. The reason I ask is because I don’t want to raise political arguments if everyone here is on the same side. There’s no point in discussing if that’s the case. I’ll just go to UGHH to discuss presidential candidates. At least they’ll tell me that One Be Lo is going to be president.

If Kucinich ran as VP to Obama I’d be hella suped.

Come on this is the presidency of the United States we are talking about. Political experience is crucial in that it allows you to understand how to deal with our almost evenly split congress (which has an approval rating so low it might very well be headed back towards the right). With a lack of experience I predict that relatively few changes will be made.
Now if Obama wins the presidency I will be voting for him, understand that. But I prefer not to have an empty suite as are candidate. It

America has seen so many corporately controlled presidents in recent decades, I think most people have forgotten what it’s like to even try on an independently-minded candidate. Yes, congress is fairly evenly divided, yes corporations control political decisions in the country, and yes corruption is always going to be evident. But is it so hard to ask people to just TRY and change it?

how do you expect people to give independent candidates a chance when the media won’t do it? it was ridiculous the number of times kucinich was left out of early polls and refused from debates, and he’s running with the dems. and face it, you can’t expect most americans to seek out news outside of CNN and FOX because it’s just not gonna happen. know how many people haven’t even HEARD of kucinich? I don’t even know who the Green party hopefuls are yet and I vote green about half the time I vote in elections. the media controls what we hear and the govt controls a large part of the mainstream media, so I think it’s going to be a long time before anything gets fixed.

this cut and dry two party system is horrible—all it has done in the past decade or so is divided us between two parties that are in actuality so similar that it’s frightening.

i hate all of this crap, for seriously.

edit: i know you’re talking about independence a la corporate sponsorship but it still kind of applies and I got started and couldn’t stop.

Haha that’s ok, I kind of figured that. I was moreso responding to Krafty’s argument against ill, and I pretty much agree with everything you just said. In fact, two of my favorite candidates (Kucinich and Paul) aren’t even known outside of myself and one of my other politically minded friends up here. Yeah, it’s sad, but I’m a realist and just go with the, “Well if we’re given a break, take it” ideal with Obama.

And sometimes a many-party system is just as frustrating. We’ve got five ‘prominent’ parties in federal elections up here, yet every time it’s still just a battle between the Liberals and the Conservatives. Given the other parties of course, it’s not such a bad thing Razz

i mean i kinda look @ ppl that vote 3rd party sideways b/c that helped get g-dubs n there….like, wasnt it more important that g-dubs not get tha presidency than it was that y’all make a point about a shitty 2 party systerm??

mayor doomberg is thinkin of runnin as an independent & that wud b sum shit b/c independents like billionaires w/ good track records….maybe oprah shud run 2 Rolling Eyes

i thought i liked ron paul until i seen his votin record on civil rights, education, wantin 2 privatizing every damn thang, his “their problem not ours mentality” & his very pro big bidness corporations stanza….not 2 mention that photo he took w/ tha creator of stormfront….good thing he has no chance of commander in chief BUT he do get tha debates poppin!!

Game theory at its finest.

foun Ron Paul interesting till i found out he took alot of money from the KKK. never trust a man with two first names. Also Bill Richardsons pr people suck ass.

Bill Richardson just seems like a tool. Arete said he was the best choice though.
