^^ Quality of care is non-existent for the 45 MILLION ppl who don’t have health insurance!

The Trashman said:From what I hear, these new healthcare plan proposals will raise taxes and lower the quality of health services provided.

Yeah, it might raise taxes on brackets you or I will probably never see in our lifetime.

Don’t let your millionaire overlords make you feel bad when they can’t buy another gold plated sink. Hard working employees and their children could use a hand supplanting the healthcare they lost when said millionaire sent their job overseas.

Personal note #1: I paid $70 a month for BCBS in Kentucky for 3 years. Simply moving from Kentucky to Georgia last year raised my monthly payments to nearly $200. To them BCBS of Georgia is a “completely seperate entity”, so now I am TECHNICALLY a “brand new customer” with a “pre-existing condition”.

I paid an additional $1600 in healthcare fees for simply…moving home.

Does that sound fair to you?

Personal note #2: When I busted my head open, I sat in the emergency room for nearly 4 hours with blood gushing from my dome without being seen. At 1 a.m. on a weeknight. I have health insurance. Why did I wait? The emergency room was so crowded with (presumably) the uninsured who have no access to actual preventative care that they either get it in the ER or wait until their issues are ACTUALLY emergencies before they see a doctor.

And guess what, taxes still pay for that.

Thanks, I’ve got loads more if you want.

RIP Ted Kennedy

Anyone else pumped for some health care tonight!

YAY!!!! It’s a historic night and Obama, I’m glad you’ve gotten your oomph back. And for all who’ve dissed Nancy Pelosi in the past, we owe her a big thank you.

also, hopefully it’ll cut down on some of the fuckery the private health insurance companies get up to.

my only remaining question is… does the world really need/want people from the US to be living longer and not dying from preventable stuff? i am not so sure Razz

greed is good, everything must be ‘for sale’ here.

So… health care passed and we’re not in a totalitarian police state with illegal immigrants overrunning our political system and socialist death panels killing my grandma. Clearly it’s only a matter of time :p

As a UK resident, the healthcare “debate” in the USA baffles me. I cannot understand why in the richest nation on the planet there are people who are refused medical treatment when it is needed. Money should never be allowed to enter the argument when deciding whether treatment is necessary - it is just a matter of compassion for fellow human beings.

I think you would have to explain compassion to the average American…

..and as a norwegian I couldn’t agree more. The fact that people are opposing this is close to unbelievable to me.

Damn crackas.

look at the media the average american consumes, and and it wouldn’t be

BionicSaintPC said:As a UK resident, the healthcare “debate” in the USA baffles me.

What passes for ‘debate’ (particularly at the mainstream level) in this country is appalling and frankly, quite embarrassing. Soundbite politics and soundbite debate feed each other forming a vicious circle of ignorance, hyperbole, overblown fear, and misinformation so never underestimate the average American’s ability to vote against their own best self-interest. Most Americans are well meaning and reasonable in their socio-political views.. but I’m not sure about their ability to intelligently disseminate facts and emotions in the American political system.

What’s most shocking is that in this age of tremendous information availability, it’s easier than ever for people to exist in a fabricated world completely devoid of widely regarded facts and truths. Even simple truths.. i.e. this is about health INSURANCE reform and not a reform of the entire healthcare system (hospitals, medical schools, etc.) is misunderstood, mischaracterized, and exploited liberally by politicians, media outlets, and fanatical PACs that all get their shine as legitimate, informed outposts of authority on the debate.

Perhaps it’s a consequence of all the information that’s out there.. while it gives us the ability to better educate ourselves, the sheer amount of garbage out there makes it easier than ever for people to insulate themselves from reality.

So, its the 25th of March MST and the world still hasn’t come to apocalypse yet and a totalitarian state hasn’t been achieved…

I laugh at the Tea Baggers and their call that apparently we are a socialist state now. If we were socialist, healthcare would be free. And in many instances, so would a college education. And mandated paid 6 weeks vacation. And paid maternity leave for a year. Just a few instances. We don’t have that yet.

Yes, they are angry radicals who are fighting against something they don’t believe in. Understandable. You should rise up. But committing domestic terrorism AND encouraging it? Come on. Recent polls have shown that they are also uneducated. I know, nobody was surprised by that. But they are being compared to the younger generation during Vietnam. Didn’t many of those begin as peaceful protests? Why resort to violence? Anyone with a small sense of reality would not blindly follow any of these morons anywhere, and my educated conservative friends laugh at them much as every other educated person with any kind of political perspective. Not to say if you don’t have a college degree you’re not smart, but to go out and blast policy and call it and those proposing it names that don’t even align with that of the real thing without having a real clue, is just stupid. And the people following them are more stupid. I’m getting sick of this extremism that is an extension of the GOP. I’d much rather have a multi-party system in this country, but radical hillbillies are not the answer.

heres an article i wrote on health care for my schools newspaper if anyone wants to read it, i had to remain pretty balanced because its a new article but i did try to make a few people look dumb

Health Care Reform: Student’s Reactions

On Sunday, March 21st congress passed a bill to reform health care that will expand coverage to 32 million citizens who are currently uninsured. Being that this plan will be set into place around the time current college students graduate, students have strong opinions toward the reform.
Part of the bill includes a 10% excise tax on indoor tanning costs, upsetting many college females.
“The main thing I don’t like is the tax added to tanning costs, which are already expensive,” said ****.
Those who cannot afford health insurance and make in between 133-400 percent of the federal poverty level are eligible for subsidies, or health insurance paid for by the government but in exchange are not eligible to Medicaid or Medicare.
Student **** took issue with another portion of the bill saying “I don’t want to have to pay for poor people who are lazier than me and can’t afford health care because of it.”
When asked if the Republicans would be able to propose a better bill, **** said they could. In 1994, when Bill Clinton first proposed health care reform, Republicans countered with a bill that included necessary coverage for every U.S. citizen.
Medicaid, which will be expanded to childless adults and cover some 30 million plus formerly uninsured Americans was already paid for through taxes before the new bill.
Every citizen being insured is expected by economists to eventually drive down the cost of health care for Americans. Right now, because no one is denied emergency care, hospitals absorb the costs incurred caring for the uninsured. This forces hospitals to increase the cost of care (so as to cover their losses), thus driving up the cost of insurance premiums. This bill is expected to take away from, and eventually eliminate this by curbing delinquent costs and spreading risk, therefore driving down the cost of health insurance for every American.
. “I think being a part of society includes helping each other out and working together, so I don’t mind helping those who don’t have the means to help themselves,” said ****.
It is estimated by economists that the bill will decrease the national debt by $143 billion over the first ten years. Amy Hutchinson reacted to this saying “I’ll believe it when I see it, I don’t think it will help the national debt.”
In 2012 a 3.8 percent tax on income will be added on investment for families who make over $250 thousand dollars per year and individuals who make over $200 thousand dollars and beginning in 2018 those whose plans are over $27,500 for families and over $10,200 for individuals will be charged a 40% excise or “Cadillac” tax.
As far as Medicare goes, the bill is expected to close the “donut hole.” The “donut hole” puts a cap on the amount of money those covered by Medicare are allowed to spend on prescription medicine each year. Starting in 2011, seniors who reach the donut hole will receive a 50 percent discount on any further prescription medicine. They will also receive a $250 rebate.
Parts of the new health care bill are expected to go into effect this year, it is still unsure what will go into place this year, or when the rest of the bill will go into effect.

“Part of the bill includes a 10% excise tax on indoor tanning costs, upsetting many college females.”

America, say hello to your future.

hahahahahaha :’( :’( :’( at least the sun is free

Changing the subject, what do you think the political fallout of this: http://collateralmurder.org/en/index.html will be? My guess is that it will be hushed up and ignored but we’ll see!

The MSM is already covering a “Here Today, Forgotten Tomorrow” white-washed version of this, so we already know where it is going. The way it is being presented on MSNBC, CNN etc. is NOT AT ALL what is in the full video nor does it explain the “official explanation” by the military ie: cover-up.

Basically, every politician and media pundit is scared to death of the U.S. military-industrial complex and/or being branded “Anti-American” so they won’t touch this with a ten-foot-pole…even if it needs to be.

Yikes, that’s hard to stomach.

I’ve always supported our troops, buuuuuuut there needs to be some sort of explanation by the people giving the orders.

I’ve seen the video of a few times and read quiet a few opinions on it, it doesnt seem as clear cut as the video suggests. I think the troops were following the ROE, the real culprit should be the higher ranked people who did the cover up. But just like abu ghraib only the pawns will get sacked.

Here is a nice article I stumbled across about the “Ground Zero Mosque” which isn’t actually going to be a mosque and isn’t actually going to be built on “Ground Zero” - what do you all think?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/aug/23/charlie-brooker-ground-zero-mosque

that whole situation is so retarded. I was in NYC last weekend and a news anchor had some right winged politician on the show and basically asked him what would be an accurate “zone” for a mosque to open away from the mosque and the dude got all caught up and was like “well its up to the people.” The news station also pointed out that there is already a mosque a few blocks from ground zero that has been there for 80 years. Not to mention the place is surrounded by porn stores and strip clubs. Again, ignorant people flipping out over stupid shit instead of worrying about bigger problems

This Al-Jazeera news story qives a balanced view on things I think:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r43aSB46Qdw

This is another pre-election media generated ‘controversy,’ meant to trick people into voting along party lines based on this non-issue instead of other relevant factors.

This is the most ridiculous shit I’ve ever heard. It’s a wake-up call. It reminds us just how stupid people still are, which you can lose touch with if you only interact with respectable people. People are so ignorant they know nothing about Islam other than 9/11. I’m like the only non-Muslim within a 300-mile radius to have actually read the Qu’ran (Koran). People talk about these religions when they actually have no idea what they’re about. It’s disgusting how many Christians have no idea that Muslim’s worship the same God as they do (it’s also disgusting how many Christians have no idea that the Old Testament is the Torah). Associating all Muslim’s with the 9/11 hijackers is like saying that we shouldn’t build a church near a place where an abortion clinic was bombed. Of course, no one would ever protest the latter because our country is overrun with intolerant Christians that don’t give a shit about anyone who doesn’t accept Jesus as their savior.
