The one fanzine we’ve seen was unfortunately printed by Qn5, even though the material was by us fans here on the boards. I don’t think it’d need to be anything weekly or on a formal schedule, but it’d be nice to have something at least seasonal. It can be something that can be printed out and distributed prior to shows overseas, in the Americas, whatever. But my vision for right now is mainly online circulation.
There are some really talented Qn5 fans that can kind of display their own skills, but the main objective would be to promote Qn5 in a way that labels and artists aren’t really promoted anymore. Besides, we might be able to help these dudes focus on the music a bit more and take the promo into our hands.
The best part is that we don’t even really need their permission and we can do whatever we want.. so even if Qn5 doesn’t cooperate, we can do it anyway because we’re still fans… so LOL.
But seriously.. is this something anyone other than me would be interested in?
i’d be down for this. though my artistic abilities are pretty much non-existant, i am a master at creating newsletters on adobe in-design. i could initially block out the zine, give word counts, and make sure everything fits and then lay out all the submitted materials and make them look snazzy. i could write too!
This is a really good idea, Amen. It could be a great way to archive QN5 happenings for those who might be unable to check in frequently, or for those with terrible memories—like me.
A quarterly/seasonal pub would work well.
All I suggest is that we need someone working QC, and/or making sure that the fanzine’s FAN origins are publicized well enough…because fact is fans are not necessarily representative of an artist’s opinions or views. Don’t want PR problems popping off unnecessarily.
Don’t worry about quality control. I’m a former Auralarian! *flashes baby blue badge*
Glad to see the 3 of y’all have an opinion on it and are down to help. I’m gonna remember this from the rest of you mu’fuckas… the ones that wanna wait to see shit get off the ground and then try and be down.
what: that sounds marvelous. I think .pdf would be the best way to e-circulate—mainly because the visual quality is excellent, and people can turn pages on it as if it really is a book.
Inferno, glad to hear you’re down to help. I wanna give it a few more days, and maybe let some people ponder on it over the weekend and see if it’s something they wanna help out with.
As for anyone else, I’d like help from any visual artists or people proficient with Photoshop at least. There aren’t going to be any masterpieces… just things that can properly convey a message. Remember, the first one was in plain ol’ black and white, and I think I’d like to keep that essence for now for printing purposes. Color will be difficult to translate to print if anyone wanted to run off copies and distribute them at shows. So word, if anyone can help, don’t play the too cool role. You’re not the only working class adults with girlfriends, active social lives, and interesting hobbies.
I’m thinking by Monday we can do some email exchanges and get shit going, brainstorm and toss out ideas. If Qn5 wants to get involved, I’ll CC all relevant correspondence to info at qn5 dot com on progress. If not, it’s all good. I wanna do this anyway.
So by Monday I wanna try and collect e-mail addresses from y’all and let’s shoot around ideas for the first e-fanzine. I don’t wanna throw around too many ideas in the post because I wanna keep things fairly secretive for the final product, but i’m thinking phony news pieces, squijee-watch 2008, a comic version of the history of Qn5 ultimately culminating in the people who closed doors over the last decade seeing Substantial on MTV, etc.
If you know you are down, drop a line in the topic, or email me: amen at tmo dot blackberry dot net.
An idea that could be of use is if people gave personal anecdotes about QN5 and their lives.
It could be a sick show they went to, the effect an album had on their life, or anything that exemplifies the impact of QN5 on someone’s life, big or small. A lot of posters have posted great stuff that relates to their experience with QN5, so I think that these anecdotes could serve as great pieces as part of the fanzine.
I would be down to helping any way I can. I know yall dont really know me like you know most everyone else here, but I would do what I could to help this thing get going.
Freshness, y’all. Good lookin’ out, Chris! Thank you very much, sir.
But word, I don’t want this to turn into a “tell me what to do,” type deal. I’m more than willing to organize it, delegate if need be, and keep things in motion. But I don’t wanna be the one to tell people how to use their own creativity. It’s about brainstorming and making things happen, y’know?
my photoshop and/or adobe knowledge is lacking compared to my knowledge on their retarded cousins MS paint/word, but I would like to contribute in some way.
alright cool, since chris was dope enough to set up the neatfocus workspace for us, i wanna put it to good use. if you got an e-mail from chris, please log in to the site, because that’s where it’s all gonna go down. i wanna consolidate all progress, thoughts, and ideas there.

Word. Amen is on it.
If you didn’t get an email about how to access the project organizer, let me know. If your email address is different than what’s listed in your forum profile, PM me.

I definitely appreciate it, but in all honesty I see my involvement over the next few weeks being kept to a minimum. I’m starting a few internships and I want to make sure I exceed expectations before taking anything else on.
That said, I love creative brainstorms and concept development, and I do want to keep a finger on things; so if a workspace invite could be sent to dedicate [dot] every [dot] sound [at] gmail [dot] com it would be much appreciated. I could pipe in every once in a while, try to help structure the discussions.
A lot of stuff will need to be figured out: mission objectives, branding, size, formatting, hosting, delivery, etc. Amen’s doing a good job of managing so far, so props to him and Chris for getting ya’lls foundations set up.

Nice, I’ll send an invite to you right after this post. There’s some good activity going on already.
I’m actually gonna stay out of the way as much as I can. I’m excited to see where you all take it.
