I always thought about a Kno produced song for Spicasso, considering each Member of Ef@mm have atleast one song on their debut’s produced by the masterful man.
I still don’t know what Twitter is all about. I see what it does, but… I don’t get it. It’s definitely a good look for people with fans… but for us regular folk? IDK.

I’ve been hearing this once a week since it launched in 2006. For a product no one understands, it’s done quite well for itself, haha. (In terms of popularity, anyway.)

Agreed, if your famous (or atleast have a fanbase) its pretty good to know what’s going on, but for everyone else I don’t give two shits about what you ate last night!

oh yeah, that twitter update was real cute. real cute.
So tone are these projects your listening to 100% complete or are you touching them up a bit more with those qn5 musical intricacies that make us fans have grown to love and expect from you guys?

All of these records have been in gestation for a long time (years in some cases), but I’m happy to say that they’re all in the “ready to release” stages at the moment, save for a few tweaks. Rest assured these albums ARE DROPPING…and soon.
Glad y’all are stayin up on the tweets. I try to keep them as informative and entertaining as possible without resorting to 109,978 @replies and “I like food” posts. Basically, I try to give you the experience of what I go through to do this. Plus, If you’re on the hunt for news tidbits, leaks, FIRST (sometimes before the QN5 blog) etc… that’s definitely the move.

Later that same day…
@chrisrhee is beastin on the new version of QN5.com. I’d love to see how the copycats handle this one. Tee-Hee. http://tinyurl.com/d6twse
Session just bounced after a futile search for open pizza spots on my block. I’ll settle for Dominos while I mix his new single. </tinnitus>
[Takes off The Daily Show Staff hat] But yes, Tone’s twitter is basically the complete opposite of mine - which is about 90% @replies and 11% “I like food” posts. (The 1% crossover is from @replies about how I like food.)
My ‘MEDIA DIET’ begins 4.1.09. No iPod. No TV. No Movies. Only writing. It’s amazing where your mind goes when there’s nothing to occupy it.
does no iPod mean no music either? and actually on that note, i’d be interested to know if tone (or any other artist for that matter) consciously chooses not to listen to music while creating their own.

I’m pretty sure I read or heard(youtube) in an interview that Deacon doesn’t listen to much musik because he doesn’t want to be too influenced by it.

Yup, & Deacon also said something similar on the Archetexture DVD, specifically that he was apprehensive about unconsciously adopting Tonedeff’s style.
I dunno what Tone does, but hopefully he’ll roll by and answer.
My humble opinion is…
Whatever the medium, this fear is probably always sort of there…that the influences behind something that you’re working on, conscious or no, are too blatant or readily apparent. And on the flip side, you can use the absence of these influences to force your creative hand.
You can’t really move forward without knowing where you come from, though. I once overheard someone saying “I don’t read books, I write them.” Stupid (and pretentious). If music is what you do, you have to study it…not necessarily using some systematic, structural process, but at the very least examples of the form itself. I’d say this is especially important in hip-hop given its close relationship to intertextuality and self-reference. You can tell from the “Music Like Gathered” thread that Tone’s musical influences roll pretty deep.
So I think there’s a balancing act there, similar to what Tori Amos referred to when Tone asked her the same question.
no can can or even should live in a vacuum, so people will always influence one another. i just read a really interesting article in one of my classes where one of the points is that it’s really difficult to pinpoint exactly how much one person or work may influence another. it’s also hard to set a widely accepted and implementable standard to judge whether someone if paying homage to a particular work, or whether they are unconsciously jacking it. if anyone wants to read it, here’s the link: http://www.harpers.org/archive/2007/02/0081387. it talks about influence in all mediums, including music.
i’m obviously not a musician, or even slightly musically inclined at that, but i don’t know if i would use the method amos recommended. look at how many years it took tone to complete archetype. i’d think that even if he shut the doors and cut himself off and whatnot from time to time while he was writing music, the fact that it was such an ongoing and long process would mean that there would always be, to some extent, an “input period” going on.
