Chico And The Man Twitter Background Theory…

So I was looking at the CATM Twitter page and thought the background image would look great for my desktop. I right-clicked it and selected “View Background Image”. I see the URL as follows:

fulgenciobatista01011959.jpg

The end of the address reads “fulgenciobatista01011959”. Fulgencio Batista was a Cuban dictator, and 0101959 = January 1st, 1959. On that date, Batista was forced out of the country by Castro’s revolution. Could the History of Cuba be one of the topics Kno was referring to when he said Tone was doing research for the album?

Goddamn, good work man Very Happy

^ You are reading too much into it. Most people don’t know this, but Twitter randomly generates filenames for it’s user-uploaded image files, usually based on parts of Cuban history.

Haha, WOW… At least SOMEONE’S doing their research for the album.

edit- bl

Nah, you guys are crazy. Good sleuthing, I_Khan.

Laughing

I’m enjoying the whole cryptic nature of this album. Fun stuff.

Not too sure if an “Anti Castro Cuban” would use that for the album, could be though. Never rule out the possibility!

I just went to a bunch of twitter pages to see whether or not you were joking, lol.

Why Cuba?

Chris was joking, by the way.

Has anyone mentioned this since? Seems like a pretty big clue..

On January 1, 1959, after formally resigning his position in Cuba’s government and going through what historian Hugh Thomas describes as “a charade of handing over power” to his representatives, remaining family and closest associates boarded a plane at 3 a.m. at Camp Colombia and flew to Ciudad Trujillo in the Dominican Republic.

Throughout the night various flights out of Camp Colombia took Batista’s friends and high officials to Miami, New York, New Orleans and Jacksonville. Batista’s brother Francisco “Panch

Hey Epic, you have a good point in there…!
Maybe.
Your theory is perhaps the most logical.

There’s a good chance that I’ve gone off the wrong path, but I deffinately think there’s some significance here. After looking more, I can’t seem to find enough history behind Roberto and his mother (after a quick search >_>) so if we carry on this theory..

either

The character could be one of many of Fulgencio’s children, or possibly even grandchildren.

or

The chico and the man ‘story’ (if that’s what it is) is fictional, with a historical background. So the ‘story’ could be following Roberto, growing up into a very interesting background of parents and so on.

- the problem is -

There are still lots of loose ends, or things that don’t fit. There also needs to be a stronger link between the ‘batista’ and ‘HCK’ clues.

I like how Chris has titled his background on Twitter as “catm_secrets.”

This may be pure coincidence, but I found it noteworthy none-the-less. I just watched The Godfather Trilogy on blu-ray (BADASS, btw), and I know Tone is a big fan of the movies from an old thread from back in the day (but hey, who isn’t a fan?).

Anyway

In The Godfather Pt II, Michael Corleone is in Cuba with Hyman Roth making a deal with the corrupt Cuban government to expand his business there. He attends the new year party, and moments after the new year arrives (01/01/59), when Michael gives Fredo the ‘kiss of death’, letting him know that he knew Fredo betrayed him, Fulgencio Batista is clearly seen and heard announcing his resignation and immediate departure from the country.

Not sure how or if this would tie in at all. Just throwing this out there for speculation. In addition, Tone did sample Pt.II for Session’s ‘Don’t Do It’ banger.

That’s all I got.

I have no idea, but that’s definitely some interesting information.

Found this random bit on wikipedia:

“For the next eight years Batista remained in the background, living luxuriously, spending time between the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City and in his mansion in Daytona Beach (near Meyer Lansky’s Florida headquarters)

(followed that link to this)

The hotel is now branded as the Waldorf=Astoria, with a double hyphen, but originally a single hyphen was employed between Waldorf and Astoria, as recalled by a popular expression and song, “Meet Me at the Hyphen”.

So the only logical explanation is that Tone’s been working on this mystery his entire career and we must go back and listen to “Hyphen” to figure out more clues….genius.

On a little more of a serious note:

“BATISTA, FULGENCIO RUBEN, passed away on November 7, 2007 after a courageous and inspirational battle with leukemia. Ruben, also called Papo since childhood, was born in Havana, Cuba, on November 18, 1933. He was born two months after his father, ex-Cuban President, Fulgencio Batista Zaldivar, became the military leader of the 4th of September revolution and ten days after their house was bombed in the counter revolution. His mother, Elisa Godinez Gomez, had left the house shortly before the explosion. By a twist of fate, Ruben was born in the very house that Carmen Robaina - his future wife - later lived in when the couple first dated.”

So this Fulgencio Batista character had a son with the same first name (think chico, the son, and the man, his pops). Also the above notes the mom left and the son met his future wife in his previous childhood house. Who knows though cause he had 8 kids and it wasn’t clear if the mom left for good as Fulgencio remarried at some point. Hmm…

^ this makes me think now that the house where the picture was found has some importance to it.
