Chico And The Man Possible clues within My Lady?

Last thing that I forgot to mention. Wifes of the gods would often not tell their husbands about their pregnancy because many of the gods felt that their child would end up killing them and taking their power. This caused many of the gods to kill either their wife, their child or both before the baby was born. This theory supports the idea that he killed his wife before his child was born.

-There’s something funny here. The titans were the forefathers of Poseidon and Amphitrite so the metaphor doesn’t really work. However the Titans were always at war with the main gods and there are several stories of them killing children to try and gain power. Not sure if this has anything to do with anything but I thought I would put it out there.

Titan is the name of “Helios” the sun god. Maybe he’s making a connection between sun/son.

or if she is concieving a titan, maybe its a cycle of some sort.

“Im uneasy.
i can feel the heightened fear inside as tears arrive
her fingers guide me to this breathing child thats lying
beneath her nighty.
she dont have the slightest idea what tonight is.
I hear the singing sirens.”

I think this means that this day/night will be the day their child will be born.

Pregnant mother drowns, yet body is saved, baby is born/saved , turns out to be a hip hop GOD (aka Tonedeff), meets up with White Mariposa (Kno) ????? <—I dunno, I’m all flustered and probably repeating things

“I Felt your heart as i grew in you womb
The Constant Bass is sooth in tune.
I drew from you like still lights.
Was still born with room to move.
I’d use in pursuit of my roots.
I would later be groomed to lose.”

There’s something important about these lyrics. I’m trying to decipher them.

I think it says something about the character who, in my belief, takes his inspiration from his mother to make music. Only to find out when he did try, he was destined to fail.

I may of interpreted them wrong, but I do wonder if this has anything to do with the theme/storyline.

Alright here’s my 2 cents. You guys might already have pieced this stuff together or I might be wrong.

1) To me the first verse indicates that the mother drowned during the trip from Cuba to America. She must have died heroically since “I’m alive in lieu of you”

2) When his mother died, the narrator must have been at an age where he was very young, but still cognizant. This is based on the lines “I barely remember you tucking me in” and “you never saw the man your son is”

3) There must be a significant reason why he wasn’t able to attend his mother’s funeral. We know there was a service because of the White Mariposa hint.

3) There’s most likely a double meaning/reference to Greek mythology with the line ” I saw a star in the heavens; I knew it was you.” I’m looking into the stories behind constellations now.

4) The narrator probably found out his wife was pregnant on the anniversary of his mother’s death. “her fingers guide me to this breathing child that’s lying beneath her nighty. She don’t have the slightest idea what tonight is.”

5) “I hear the singing sirens I bid her adieu as she and I collide” Will the rest of the album elaborate on an Odyssean journey the narrator is taking?

Just some ideas I’ve had about this:

I think it’s pretty much agreed that the first woman is his mother, and the second is his lover. But Kno said that Tonedeff is using many multiple meanings throughout the album. I think that his mother signifies Cuba, the country I believe he fled from. “I hear your cries as you’re consumed” could be reference to Castro taking over. Then I believe his lover is maybe the US. “sometimes I tell some teeny lies to feed her pride and sleep between her thighs”- perhaps he is an illegal immigrant, so he lies to live there. “She reminds me of you in some ways”- could be comparing where he lives now (maybe Florida?) to Cuba. Plus he says “Cause something within me loves to pretend that you’re my mother again,” maybe meaning he wishes he had stayed in Cuba.

This makes alot of sense. Like you said though, there are many meanings to this song and yeah, I think this is one.

The Odyssey’s plot begins in the middle of the overall story, with prior events described through flashbacks or storytelling. Perhaps CATM does the same.

The theme of temptation as a psychological peril is portrayed by the sirens who lure sailors to their deaths by seduction. They represent the ideal audience—they sing about the most glorious moment of your life, thus tempting you to stay the hero or warrior they are portraying you as. Your own weakness makes you vulnerable, your greatest weakness comes from inside you.

I went off on a tangent trying to find things for clue #6 and thought of something inside of My Lady. We pretty much beat the Greek and water references to a pulp but what about all of the Saturn references?

Saturn:

-has rings (“I kiss a ring of diamonds”) possibly made by a collision (“she and I collide”)

-is shiny (“diamonds,” “way that her skin shines”)

-has seven rings named A through G while the musical scale has 7 notes named A through G

-has a moon called Titan, which has lakes and mountains (“conceive a Titan,” “Her Highness,” “highest peaks,” “steepest heights,”)

Anyway, not saying this story takes place on a faraway planet but interesting nonetheless.
