Chico And The Man CATM Fetuseahorse

Has anyone else noticed that the Fetuseahorse that flashed at the end of that video and the one that is on the t shirt are different? One has a white fetus and the other has a black fetus…

Looks like all the colors are inverted as in one is like a negative of the other. This seems to work though because in order to see inside the seahorse, it would have to be an X-Ray. I would say the picture in this thread/on the shirt is the “real” image and the one in the video/on the twitter account is the negative…not sure it matters either way.

Also hell of a find on the Cuban Seahorse coin, isthisgoodenough. At least that proves they do exist in the waters around Cuba.

Haha all I did was type Cuban Seahorse in to Google.

Crazy, I came here after mad long just to see what was behind that t-shirt image. I guess it’ll get clearer soon, *thumbs up*

I just hope they can do a show out here in china

Has anyone mentioned yet that Poseidon was said to have used seahorses to pull his chariot? Other sources say he rode right on the back of one, I believe.

Also the lines “Her Amphitrite to my King Poseidon, and she’s decided in her sneaky slyness that she’d conceive a Titan…” and the ending of “My Lady” make me think that the father has killed his wife.

Perhaps, then, the fetuseahorse pic represents the dad (seahorse) metaphorically ‘carrying’ his child (rather, the thoughts of his child) with him to the US mainland.

Or maybe he did one of those procedures where you murder the mother and then cut the fetus out and it miraculously lives. Gross, but it’s happened before.

Now I’m wondering if the first verse of “My Lady” isn’t written by the fetus’ perspective?? He describes his parents fighting (could lead to the husband killing the wife).

maybe it was said before but, maybe the mother died giving birth to the baby and from then metaphorically speaking the father carries his son with him as a seahorse would do with his own.

^^^^ You, sir, may be onto something.

She couldn’t have died while giving birth..

Last June I tattooed this date in numerals under my chin
The last place ever touched by your skin

Though I barely remember you tucking me in

But, to give something to consider rather than just a ‘no’.. here’s something:

Take into account these lines from the first verse:

-Too bad I’ll never see the funeral
-I saw a star in the Heavens; I knew it was you
-My anxiety is through the roof/ Can’t deny the irrefutable truth/ That I’m alive in leiu of you/
-Last June I tattooed this date in numerals under my chin/ The last place ever touched by your skin
-Though I barely remember you tucking me in
-Saw your chance, so I guess you took it
-Carried the term, but never saw the man your son is
-I’m asking what I’d give to be you

There’s a ton of possibilities, but I’m going to go with what I think matches these up in the most logical way.

1. His mother has died, indubitably, and it was while he was young. (I’m alive in leiu of you) (Though I barely remember you tucking me in) (Carried the term, but never saw the man your son is)
2. She may have committed suicide, or maybe she left the hostile environment in their family’s home and died after she left. (Mom and dad arguing again/ Saw your chance, so I guess you took it)
3. Regardless of how she died, he seems to want to be with her or in her place where she is stress-free. (My anxiety is through the roof/ Can’t deny the irrefutable truth/ That I’m alive in leiu of you) (I’m asking what I’d give to be you)
4. There is a significant day which he’s gotten tattooed beneath his chin. It could have been her birthday as he wants to remember her presence or her being around rather than their separation, but he knows she’s gone and has been for such a long time. (Last June I tattooed this date in numerals under my chin/ The last place ever touched by your skin/ Guess somethin’ within me loves to pretend that you’re my mother again/ Though I barely remember you tucking me in/)
5. He (obviously) is talking to her in her demise and holds the idea of her being a star in the sky. It might be a specific star, due to the way it’s referenced. (I saw a star in the Heavens; I knew it was you)

With all that said, there’s still a few lines that have always bugged me.

And in the silence of your tomb
I hear your cries as you’re consumed
Your spirit ride illuming under the 20,000 hues of blue

Is she being consumed now? Was she consumed by something that killed her? Maybe she drowned in the ocean? Are the 20,000 hues of bue within the sky, or the ocean? Which ever it is, apparently her “spirit ride” is beneath it. I’m still not 100% sure if the word “ride” is even what Tone says, nor exactly what it means unless it’s to be taken as if he’s saying “your spirit rides.”

What do you think?

I think the woman in the first verse is not the same as the woman in the 2nd.

I always envisioned the first verse being the husband’s mother, and the second being the husband’s wife.

I think I’m ready for the next clue…or better yet, the first single Smile

I would love if the first single is released prior to Nov. 23rd so that I can use it in a presentation for my Music Appreciation class. Otherwise I’m going to use The Distance or My Lady, but still.. new music is good/great/awesome/spectacular/amazing.

Well, considering the album is scheduled to release sometime before January 1st, I think it’s safe to say we’ll be hearing the single by Nov. 23rd. If not, I might just go crazy. Lol.

I won’t even listen to the single when it’ll come out. I’m planning to discover as much of the album as possible when it comes out. To have listened to “My Lady” is already too much for me . Smile

My Lady is a god song. Smile I like it. I’m looking forward to listening to the album when released.

Houstonz, I agree with all the stated evidence you wrote and these lines above are puzzling. I was thinking “consume” usually refers to either fire or water (though obviously it could be many other things). If the narrator is “alive in lieu of [his mom]” then maybe she saved him from drowning, she died instead, and he feels guilty of that. The line “saw your chance so I guess you took it” might not fit with that theory though because I don’t think she’d choose to drown but you never know, maybe he feels she did.

To add something else a bit out there, maybe the narrator is the Seahorse as he wants to be like his mother in the water. In reference to the second verse, he might overtake the woman and raise the kid himself a la a male seahorse.

^ interesting input.

*waits on edge of seat for the next clue & new single*

I’m not sure if I’ll even listen to the new single before the album comes out. I’m actually already a bit annoyed with having listened to “My Lady” so much.

The next clue though for sure.

I don’t know… My Lady still sounds so fucking awesome to me that I could never skip it. If the next single’s the same, I want to hear it…. like now

Don’t get me wrong, I still love it, but I can’t bring myself to keep listening to it ‘lest I end up getting bored of it.

You just gotta make sure you don’t play it out like any other song.

I wonder if the fetus inside a seahorse is a metaphor for a chambered nautilus. (its shape resembles the fetal position)

Hey houstonz I havent seen this thread before now but I wonder if: The ‘physical her’ is being consumed by the earth and only the ‘spiritual her’ is left riding as a shooting star illuming the sky below the heavens? And she may be crying as she doesn’t want to leave the earth and her son but had to sacrify herself for her son (refering to ‘in lieu with you’).

Just some thoughts

Never thought about it that way. Good thinking.

Just some more interesting to facts to go on this note ..

“Having survived relatively unchanged for millions of years, nautiluses represent the only living members of the subclass Nautiloidea, and are often considered “living fossils.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautilus

“Ever heard of Bob James’ Nautilus? Everyone and their mom has used that record, and about 20 CLASSIC hip-hop songs have sprung from it.” - Kno
http://qn5.com/blog/entry/sampling-in-2006-aka-primo-should-slap-you/

This information is probably completely irrelevant, but I_Khan is right. The fetus bares a striking resemblance to the Nautilus. Especially the head. And perhaps the album is to show that QN5 has kept its own flavor instead of conforming to “whats in” like the mainstream cats. That could go on to say that they are the only living species of Hip Hop. If the nautilus does have anything to do with it, maybe “Chico and the Man” are implying that the album will be the next album that has 20 classic hip hop songs, such as Bob James’ Nautilus. One more thing, somewhat off topic, I was walking down the street w/ my CATM shirt when a girl walked by and said to her boyfriend “Look its a Nautilus.”

Alright, one more probably irrelevant thing to add the previous irrelevance. In “Love Aint” Tonedeff says “Now, you’re working yourself out the same as when you strain with a nautilus”. If I’m not mistaken this song was released in 2003, which I also believe was when they announced the CATM project .. hmmm… Yup. No idea .. More clues please!!

Also…

The Chambered Nautilus is the title and subject of a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes, in which he admires the “ship of pearl” and the “silent toil/That spread his lustrous coil/Still, as the spiral grew/He left the past year’s dwelling for the new.” He finds in the mysterious life and death of the nautilus strong inspiration for his own life and spiritual growth.

Build thee more stately mansions, O my soul,
As the swift seasons roll!
Leave thy low-vaulted past!
Let each new temple, nobler than the last,
Shut thee from heaven with a dome more vast,
Till thou at length art free,
Leaving thine outgrown shell by life’s unresting sea.

The movie “20000 Leagues Under the Sea” (1954)
Ships name in movie “Nautilus”
Sunk under “hues of blue”
20000 hues of blue to be precise

Hmmmm….

Something to consider. I just don’t know if the story in ‘My Lady’ is fictional or not, and if the mother died by drowning for that matter. Either way some of the stories are very interesting.
