I would just warn you that you can get significantly better sounding headphones for half the price of those QC15s. Although if noise-cancellation is your primary concern then those are definitely the best I know of at that.
My first listen will be with my tower speakers cranked to a pretty decent volume, and hopefully no distractions of any kind until I can listen to it at least once completely.
houstonz said:Hm.. were you one of the folks who recommended the Audio Technica M50’s or something like that? They’re like 120-170 aren’t they? Hm..
Yes, I highly recommend those headphones. They aren’t open-aire so they have a respectable amount of isolation (I use them when recording vocals, for example), and they are decently comfortable. If you want to pm me and exchange Skype/AIM/Gchat/whatever information then I can definitely go further in-depth if you might be looking for something different in a pair of headphones.
I watched that clue 7 video again because I like to torture myself. I’m way too (read: appropriately) excited for this to come out. Seven weeks from tomorrow!
I have a pair of bigass Sennheiser HD 280 Pros I’ve been using them for djing and recording for years now and I love em. They’re only a hundred bucks and they’re the only headphones I’ve ever used that cancel noise with their sheer girth while not being a noise-canceling set. Comfy, loud, sonically correct…yeah. I’m banging the shit out of CATM on them. And in my car.
Something simple. Probably reclined with my headphones on. Lights off with either a warm cup of coffee or a cold beer. Haven’t decided yet. That’s pretty much what I did with Oneirology.
i really dont want to say this, but i want to have a really shitty day when it gets delivered to me. So when I get home, the sky will part and shine down upon my mailbox as I open the qn5 packaging and alleviate the sof the day. One thing qn5 music does for me is make me feel better, and if im at the bottom of a bucket of shit, and the album ive been waiting for since ‘03 pulls me out of that, it will have a much more lasting impression. Regardless, If i dont have a shitty day, that will be good too cuz i have no doubt that the album will knock my socks off.
Dang, I have no clue what I’ll do for my first listen. I guess I’ve never actually done anything special for the 1st listen of a cd. Normally I just happen to listen to it whenever it becomes available. That’ll probably be what will happen with this one also. I’ll get my hands on it, and play it until it burns the hands to touch it. Then I’ll stop for the day, and play it the next day. And one day, I’ll say, “Hey, I need to really sit down and listen to this” ...and then it will hit me like a brick to the head.
I originally was planning to take a drive for my first listen…then I tried out the dr dre headphones at best buy today and it changed my mind. I don’t know if I’ll get the dre ones though. Gonna have to read up on the ones mentioned in here. I don’t plan on buying any until catm drops so I have a while to save up some money and make a decision on which ones to get.

Word.
I, like everyone else, was only slightly disheartened when the delay was announced…. because at the same time I was thinking, “Sweet, now I have more time to research and save up for headphones.”
A headphone recommendation thread on this forum got ousted before I ever got to it.
From what I gathered, the best choices were….
Under $400:
-Sennheiser HD 650
-Denon AHD2000
-AKG K 701
-Bose QuietComfort (3 or 15)
Under $300:
Sennheiser HD 595
Sennheiser HD 598
Sennheiser PXC 450 (noise canceling)
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80
Under $200:
Sennheiser HD 555
Sennheiser HD 518
Audio-Technica ATH-M50
Under $100:
AKG K-240 (Kno cosigned)
Grado Prestige Series SR-60i
Audio-Technica ATH-M30
Sony MDR-V700
Sony MDR7506
Sony MDR-XB500 (Extra Bass)
Almost all of these headphones listed come with a Blue Schooler recommendation. Are there any missing links here? Trying to narrow down a definitive list of choices. If money wasn’t an issue (under $500, haha), what would be your pick?
All my headphone time is spent at work with extremely loud ventilation in front of me. Personally, noise canceling is alluring (just don’t like raising my volume too high without noticing) but closed-back is a must, which is limiting because a bunch of the very nice Sennheisers are open-aire.
Anyways, what are you going to be listening to CATM the first time with? Hopefully I’ll have one of the sets listed above on my laptop. Afterwards it will be those headphones plus a FLAC player on my Droid X.
I would say that the ATH M50s sound better than every headphone on that list under $300. The Sennheiser HD650s, however, are the absolute best headphones I’ve personally heard (which includes the $1500 HD800s).

get it while u can, I haven’t seen them cheaper although I’ve heard of people getting them for 100 or less a year ago. I may get them just to have them for CATM
What y’all know about the Sennheiser HD 600? A lightning deal from Amazon is coming up for them at 11:15AM CST and I might be picking them up. The reviews look as good as the ones for the 650s.
They’re currently listed for $315. Not sure how big of a discount it will get here in the next few minutes but lightning deals are usually pretty sweet.
