CunninLynguists :: Official Strange Journey Volume Two Discussion Thread ::

i discovered cunninlynguists about a month or two ago…so sad it took me this long, but like mr. sos says in die for you, “lates better than never” Smile but anyway, ive been listening to all of their previous albums everyday for the past month or two and that held me off until SJV2 was released. Bought it on itunes the day it came out (maybe ill buy a hard copy after i save up some more money) and have been listening to it nonstop.

i love tear trax and still with me.

That’s a lot of great music to digest!

yea, and im starting to work tonedeff in there. my ears and mind couldnt be happier right now. cant remember the last time i turned on the radio

I’m missin’ my Vol. 1 too, but i guess it’s just late..
But still, SJV2 blew my mind!!

I feel ya.. QN5 music is above divine..

Still With Me (Remix) is so fudging dope.. Heard it like 20 times now, but still haven’t heard all of the lyrics yet, ‘cause the beat got my mind locked down!! It’s wild!

It finally got here! I am so excited smile

Already loving Streets, Heart and To Be For Real as far as Kno productions are concerned. They are really my type of beat that I enjoy the most - nice sampling.

Cocaine is gonna be really dope when we get to see the video!

I wish they did the video for Running Wild instead of Cocaine…
Matter fact ANY song on the album/mixtape instead of Cocaine.
Yeah, I’m hating that track like that!
Still the rest of the songs is all 5 stars and above…

finally had some time to write down my thoughts…

First off… GREAT ALBUM, shit is FIRE!

My favs: Streets, To Be For Real, Still With Me, Close Your Eyes, Running Wild, Nothing To Give (Live)

- Streets: just kept my head noddin non-stop, one thing that never fails about Poison Pen is that he keeps my head bangin and makes me want to kick some ass. really like the piano/sample.

- To Be For Real: Beautiful beat/sample, this is one of the instrumental highlights of the album. Good subject and lyrics.

- Still With Me: badass beat, and 2 really good verses from Jermiside and Deac. My only issue with the song is that its not long enough. It begs for a 3rd verse (Mr. SOS?), but either way this is my favorite song on the album. now lookin into more stuff from Jermiside. I vote for an extended remix if possible!

- Close Your Eyes: i was really excited about this track since I was a big Grieves fan, and I like Blue Scholars. great beat and verses. was so happy when they did this live with Grieves and Deac in Austin. didn’t know bout Macklemore but now I’m a fan and am lookin into his work.

- Runnin Wild: really like this beat and the message. the more i hear E-40 in this song the more i like it/think it fits. not a E-40 fan in general but his verse has grown on me. really happy evidence was in it.

- Nothing To Give: this just transported me back to the Megashow. if i close my eyes i can still see the performance. plus the nuances of Club Dub live just sound so natural and organic with CL. cannot wait for the DVD!!!!

I feel like BSBD did a good job with The Park, and I like it more than the original (it was never my top pick from DA). I liked the guitar in Imperial alot. Heart is cool, and I appreciated it a lot more after I saw it live… *high pitched voice*“What do you do?!” Tear Trax was good. Really liked the beat, but I have to be in the mood to hear it. Cashmere tells a great story. Pit Stop skit was hilarious.

Cocaine is my least favorite song. Its still good, but the beat is a bit spazzy to me (i’m sure thats why its for “cocaine”) but it just doesnt vibe with me that well. Although I like the WWKYA Tour remix, i have to be in the mood for it.

theres not a single song i dislike, only some i don’t feel as much as others.

This is a very solid and cohesive album. The skits were apporpriate/funny, the features were amazing, Kno’s production is off the chain as usual, Deac and Natti bring the heat. Another stellar performance by CL. It blows my mind the consistency of CL. This is their 8th album if u count the mixtapes, lets just say 7th since SSv1 was straight mixtape style. And there is NO degredation of quality - instrumental or lyrical. This has proven to me that CL is here to stay for a long time (please God), and in many ways has become the greatest hip hop group EVER! Thank you again for makin some of the best music I’ve heard!

I was wondering why there’s not even one “Qn5 music” written on the cover or/and Cd?
APOS rulz now? Smile

first 100% independent CL/APOS release

Got my double pack yesterday, I love this shit so damn much!

FINALLY RECEIVED IT !!

this shit’s bangin in my hi-fi system *headnoddin*

got mine aswell! and im in the london picture Very Happy this is just like christmas

Was a lil gutted (not too much though) to recieve two copies of SJV2 instead of the SJV1 & SJV2 combo pack.

yeah so did i… except i only ordered the second. WIN! mailed it to my friend… trying to make him buy more QN5 stuff

also, i’ve been wondering why the pre-order copies had 8 instrumentals on them vs the digial versions which had all 12…?
possibly similar reason on SJV1 for there being no instrumental of ‘Dance for Me (Remix)’? i was going to ask about Hypnotized but just realised this is because it’s with Club Dub Razz
my last question is whether instrumentals of those two (and the other two with Club Dub) will be available at some point? sometimes i prefer not having lyrics because i need to concentrate on something else like writing essays/papers

i think theres not enough room on the cds to fit the album + all instrumentals

i finally got it!
it will be a nice evening with a nice and thorough listening!

I want my 6-8th graders to get familiar with Kno’s production!

ha, actually i’m a boy. the pic is of Jean Grae. also i just realised that The Light and Mexico have been released as instrumetals.. oops

thats awesome

i think theres not enough room on the cds to fit the album + all instrumentals

you might be right actually… lemme check when i get home

also, it is too bad Tunji didn’t get his verse in in time for Heart. i could do with another minute or so on that track! (ha how selfish of me)

Theres instrumental versions of the full albums of a piece of strange and dirty acres floating around all over the internet. I was actually kind of suprised to find them.

got my hard copy in mail yesterday, front cd case broken…i fuckin hate postal services

also kinda sad that everywhere beat wasn’t included (i knew some beats will be dropped because 74 min. limit but not this one, damn)

album is still bangin, i’m glad to add it to my CL collection

and on the other note, i’m finally came around buying dirty acres on vinyl

after 6 days of heavy rotation, gotta leave a feedback.

Imperial : I do love the instrumental, and Gibbs’ & Natti’s verses fit to it almost perfectly. One of my fav trax of the tape.

WWKYA Tour : haha, the usual funny track. I disagree with ppl who say this is failure to add some “light songs” (expl : in the hhdx review). This is part of the game Very Happy. 3 HQ verses.

Streets : my mayyyyyne Sean P spittin with CL dudes, can’t dislike it. Poison Pen is dope as well. Top 5.

Heart : i love this one since i’ve listened it for the very first time. Love the sample, love the verses. Pretty dope.

To Be For Real : some smooth and deep song, very good verses and beat.

Tear Trax (yes i spelle it TraX ^^) : some smooth and deep song[2], what a beautiful song written by Cashmere. Gotta say this is the type of shit i can listen when i’m in a certain mood.

Still With Me : top 5. Really love the Jermiside’s verse.

Close your eyes : the 3 guests are talented. I didnt know Macklemore before and he amazed me. Really good song.

The Park (remix) : sry Kno, but like (it seems) alot of ppl, i prefer the remix Very Happy. The beat’s just chillin as fuck. Tbh, the original was the track i listened the less of D.A.

Nothing to give (live) : just makes me want to attend the next show in France.

Cocaine : BANANAS. Nuff said. *headnoddin*

Running Wild : already gave my opinion. Really good song. Dope Hook.

Evertwhere : Jesus/religion aint my typical/favorite topic… But i do love the beat, kinda abstract.

Conclusion :

EVERY guest brings his thing into it. Natti’s goin into a Mic Beast, fire. Deac’s always smooth and poetic. Good job by Kno, even tho i think it aint his best effort

Podium : Heart/Imperial/Cocaine

SJV2 > SJV1 imo.

yeah i have them. they came with the preorders for their respective albums. i was wondering about the instrumentals for Hypnotized and the Dance for Me (Remix) off Vol 1 as a followup query to the 4 that were missing on (pre-order) physical copy of Vol 2 vs all 12 on the digital version

the answer is lack of space on one disk… i assume

still don’t have it .. ahaha! can’t wait any longer Very Happy

“Some are real as the line in their big face bill
Others are counterfeit living off of Xerox meal
Quickly coming out their mouth like they put out grills
See the traffic in the sky but you take off still”

-Natti, “To Be For Real”

Natti continues to murder intros on the regular. From the second he stepped in on APOS.. “To Be For Real” is just such a rush with the cymbals in the background, Kno drops the break at just the right time.. I could bump the instrumental alone for days.

Please keep doing work BSBD & Joe Beats.. “The Park” remix continues to get heavy burn.. those guys have such a great ear for melody.. much like Kno.

Looking forward to the video of the APOS live set too..
