I don’t think the list of releases was in chronological order. IFHR is the first release this year and it was at the top of the list, but I don’t think Stan’s 3rd LP is going to come out within just a couple months from now.
Aside from that, CL’s pretty good at delivering releases on time and not having many issues (as far as we know) with pushing back releases somehow.
IronGrrl said:But I’ve been listening to Dirty Acres a lot again, and I am still blown over by Summer’s Gone and Georgia. Kno’s verse on Georgia is the most poignant and meaningful of all time for me, and I don’t know what to say about Summer’s Gone other than I fall under it’s spell - it’s haunting and lyrical and just exquisitely beautiful.
COSIGNED! I LOVE LOVE LOVE “Summer’s Gone” .. the beatwork is just epic and Natti paints a lyrical pictures like few others can. LOVELY track that I NEVER get tired of.
With a name like Oneirology (authoritative and abstract; certainly carries less of a sociopolitical undertone than “A Piece of Strange” or “Dirty Acres,” or whimsical/meta undertone than “Will Rap For Food” or “Southernunderground”) I can’t help but wonder whether this is going to be a concept record, or a regular albeit thematically heavy record.
At this point I’m going to guess it’s the latter, but the former would be amazing to listen to.
Given how people seem to feel about “nerd music,” I can see why a few might be averse to twelve track narratives about “dreaming” or “dream worlds,” but really: there’s so much literature—scientific, fictional, canonical, pop—out there about the way human beings perceive, imagine, and interact with their surroundings, that an insightful yet approachable treatment of the subject could make for some pretty awesome music. If anybody can strike that balance right, it’s Deac, Natti, and Kno.
Yes. Fanboy-ish speculation about what this album might be like based off of its title.
Irrongirl and 1200…ive been listening alot to Dirty Acres alot lately too….must be the cold weather breaking….but more specifically Gun, Yellow Lines, and Things I Dream…..ive heard all these tracks thousands of times but these three in particular blow me away everytime….my wife knows when im listening to them on my headphones cuz it’s 70 degrees in the house and Im still getting goosebumps
With a name like Oneirology and it’s meaning I bet this albums cover art is gonna be bad ass…hopefully. Can’t wait for the album hope it comes out this year
I expect the album to be very extreme. I think many of the songs will either be very dark like “Nothing to Give” and “Things I Dream” or very upbeat like “The Park”. I don’t think there will be many songs that just serve as Southern anthems or lyrical flossing. This is just based off the idea that each song will represent either a dream or a nightmare. Of course, I could be way off base. One thing I definitelyexpect, though, is a sound that we haven’t heard before. And I don’t mean like the maturity from SU -> APOS, but an entirely new sound. I expect the bizarre qualities of some of the APoS interludes but in a more drawn out way. Maybe to the point where the music isn’t even identifiably hip-hop at some points. I imagine the beats breaking down into a cacophony of noise at points as a sort of symbol of the sporadic nature of dreams. I think the album will be very frantic at times, while being very tranquil at others. Also, just a friendly heads up to Kno, watch the movie “Mulholland Drive” and I think you’ll find it to be a great source to sample quotes from. Particularly toward the last half or so.
That’s more or less my expectation, but if that’s not what it turns out to be then it’s only because CL’s idea is better.
There’s definitely a lot of potential and freedom to do a lot of different things with the album’s concept. Dreams can be just about a lot of things. I bet you could take that concept in a lot of interesting directions. I’m expecting a lot of exploration into new sounds.
My ears render me incapable of discord—I leave that to the El-P’s of the world who have made an art out of it.
ahahahahaha i do really like El-P and that is very true but i can definitely see how his stuff doesn’t exactly appeal to everyone. and also one of the only things i would NOT expect on a CL record… although kno has already pointed this out now
when the sun’s shining and the summer mood’s setting its place into my heart and mind, all i need is a new album to accompany and fill my days. Guys, you make my life brighter, can’t wait to hear another track from you
