OK so the Tone thread got some discussion so I figured i’d go again with CL. They have about 3 times more material so it was much harder to get it down to 15 but here goes!
Oh, and the reason why I went with 15. Simply because I wanted to make a playlist out of my Tone list and 15 sounded like a good number…and I cannot stop bumping it
15. Running Wild
The first single from SJV2 got a considerable amount of discussion with regards to whether E40 should be kickin’ it with CL. I’ve never been a big E40 fan in the past but he holds it with his verse. This song is tight and ended up becoming my favourite from SJV2.
14. Doin’ Alright
This is the song which got me onto Mr. SOS in a big way. I remember on my first listen through Southernunderground I was thinking how nice the new CL album was and then when this song hit I realised it was going to be something special. Alot of people will talk about ‘Rain’ with SOS but this is the one which stood out to me.
13. Mexico
Club Dub deliver again. This song should have been a hit single, like top 40 shit. Easily one of the most laid back tracks I know of and something that I will play when i’m feeling a little stressed out. Deacon never fails with the singing (people call him the underground Nate Dogg but I prefer the Sleepy Brown of the 00’s). Those strings are beautiful too, the perfect accompaniment to the next song…
12. Cornasto
I don’t have much to say about this one apart from 1) It’s beautiful and 2) It’s criminally overlooked for being on SSV2. Everyone needs this song in their life, I could quite easily play it all day. Probabily deserves to be higher actually.
11. Love Ain’t
This was another song which made me realise SU was going to be special. This is probabily the song that made me check for Tone. I’m not sure but I think I may have heard this before ‘Archetype’, not 100% sure though. Both this and the remix are absolute classics.
10. The Gates
APOS blew me away and this is the song that did it. Coming just after ‘Never Know Why’ and before ‘Damnation’ and ‘Hellfire’. This was something i’d never heard before. Rappers playing parts, this was new to me and totally messed with my mind (I hadn’t heard Prince Paul’s ‘Prince Amongst Thieves’ at this point.)
9. Don’t Leave Me (When Winter Comes)
I honestly didn’t thing Slug and CunninLynguists was going to work. I was very wrong! This whole track and especially Slug’s verse is top notch. One of my favourite Kno beats as well.
8. What’ll You Do?
This track nearly broke my heart when I first heard it, lol. After crafting such an amazing voyage in APOS, to hear Deac wondering whether he’s doing the right thing in persuing a music career is crushing. ‘Kno, for the love’s a hard reason to keep my life in suspension’. Classic.
7. Mic Like A Memory
This is the song which started my love of CL. It is absolute perfection. Kno’s beat, Kno’s verse, Deac’s verse, Kory’s verse. All perfect, the hook, perfect. Just…perfect.
6. Never Come Down (The Brownie Song)
I wasn’t a big fan of this when it was first realised but the more I heard it the more I loved it. Natti’s verse especially is hilarious and the video is absoltely top notch.
I must have listened to this song for 6 months without really paying attention to the lyrics, the beat was so beautiful. When I realised what the song was actually about it really hit home. I used to lie on my bed and picture a video for this song, I’ve got it planned out frame by frame lol.
3. Things I Dream
Kno’s verse is crazy. I love Deac and Natti’s chemistry on the mic but Kno, RAP MORE OFTEN lol. Seriously, if Onierology is anything like this then I will be a very happy fan.
2. The Light
Club Dub <3 forever, lol. This song is absolutely epic, from the first note to the very end. You all know it, absolute classic. 1. Georgia
This song is something very special. Natti’s verse is absolutely beautiful (and my favourite Natti verse). Kno talks about his state with total honesty and the beat is so fresh. This is the one CL track I always go back to first. Love it.
Right, doesn’t need as much detail but if anybody feels like posting their top 15, go for it

Doin Alright

Mic like a Memory

Yeah, APOS is a different type of beast. I find it hard just to listen to one song from APOS without then giving the whole CD 2 or 3 plays. It’s pretty much the best rap album of the past decade but I go back to DA, SU and SJ (especially vol. 1) more, because the songs work better individually. When I do go back to APOS, it’s usually all I listen to for a few days, on the other hand, I cant remember the last time I listened straight through DA or SU.
Well over the years my top 15 has definitely changed… But as of now I’d have to go with
1) Die for you
2) Fear
3) The Gates
4) Clap
5) Still with me
6) Running Wild
7) Imperial The Light
9) Affirmative Action
10) Mic like a Memory
11) Break Even
12) Porcelain (Remix)
13) Nasty Filthy
14) Seasons
15) Georgia (remix)
(I know this is a 15 limit but I just wanna add on these last couple songs lol my bad)
Earth’s Essence, Tear Trax, Missing children, Half animal, Summers gone, Valley of Death, and America loves Gangsters.

Nice list, welcome to the forum!
I didn’t include songs like Fear and Die For You since no-one from CL was rapping on them, but if I included everything on CL albums, they’d be there.
I’d like to note that NO-ONE does remixes like CL.
Mic Like A Memory
Porcelain
Nasty Filthy
Seasons
Love Ain’t
Word dude thanks for the welcome!
haha Yeah, I thought about that actually as i was posting but figured, eh it’s in the album sure why not. Tone and SoS rip it in those songs. And yes the remixes are truly amazing.
I honestly have trouble stopping the interlude’s as well. Damnation is so sick, it’s mind bottling how artistic just the beats alone are.
“Mind Won’t Behave” is creeping up my list of faves.. Natti’s just BODIES another track with his verse.. do not let him go first cause if you’re not on the QN5 roster & you have to follow him.. you’re done.
“there you are in yo car, blowin breeze through yo hair
we ain’t even met, so for no reason you there
riding on my mind with yo seat on recline/
looking fine as wine, sittin in a cellar with time
i engage ways to exchange names in yo gaze
minutes became days, watching sun glaze in your face
step out yo ride guy hintin at, hittin what shakes
but i’m wrapped up in yo thighs, complimentin yo waist
and can taste that strange fruit, no make-up you plain cute
define you as a dime? that’s a crime, that ain’t loot
that buys gumdrops and blow-pops for cheap cravings
you diabetic sweet, i need shots for behaving
i wonder, are you a figment of slumber?
is my brain a mess, do you exist in the flesh?
are you front row at the show with breasts that peak through your dress?
if you don’t let me know, i’ll go and speak to the rest,..”
WHOA. I love that beat too, Kno.. so smooth and it SLAMS in the new system I dropped in my car. The texture of the bass line is so addicting to listen to.
Not to be outdone, Deacon & SOS come with the heet.. fantastic verses from those fellas too.. Deacon makes that shit sound effortless.
If you haven’t been giving SSv2 multiple spins and a close listen.. you’re missing the fuck out.. as has bee nsaid before, it’s better than most crew’s FULL LENGTH ALBUMS.
houstonz said:Deacon produced Mind Won’t Behave :O
SOS’s verse has always been my favorite. I get chills from the ending.
Actually it was co-produced by Deacon, me and Sunny Stylez—but all I really did was sampled hook.
I wish I could have mixed that song with the knowledge I have today. and yeah, I made that beat (no SunnyStylez) and Kno added the sampled hook which sealed the deal.
hopefully we’ll be giving you enough music over the next 6 months that we won’t need to remix a 5 year old song, but I appreciate the interest.
Death is Silent, Niggaz with Latitude, Chico and the Man & Oneirology. Plus Natti is moving rapidly along with his solo “Higher Enlightenment” and I’ve produced an entire LP for JustMe of Scribbling Idiots entitled “Tragedy and Dope” that’s being mixed now. soooo much music. Taking a year off from touring has soooo been worth it.
When the Beatles stopped touring they made their best music. I know u aint got that money but I’m very excited about DiS, 1erology, NwL (especially) and HE by Natti.
Any chance, Deac, my friend lol, of maybe a hint or two at producers or guests of NwL?
Also, just thought of somethin I wanted to no for a while. Whats good with SunnyStylez? Also, will we one day see a Kynfolk album? Songs like KKKY give us idea of what Kynfolk could do.
1) Family Ties
2) Nothing to Give
3) Things I Dream
4) The Gates
5) Don’t Leave
6) Mindstate
7) Love Ain’t Dance For Me
9) 616 Rewind
10) Dirty Acres
11) Georgia
12) Spark My Soul
13) Mic Like A Memory
14) To Be for Real
15) America Loves Gangsters
God, that was so hard, I don’t know if I got the list right, especially the top 5. After doing this, I realized how much I miss Kno’s lyrics.
I’m producing 80-90% of it. Until we have a track list ready for unveiling, I’m going to leave it at that.
As for Kynfolk, Natti’s solo is shaping up to be very Kynfolkish. SunnyStylez has done some co-production work on it.
Im lookin forward to Natti’s solo, he impresses me more with each song. Also, lookin forward to more production work from yourself, loving the beats on the Left Field Radio release and I can only imagine you’re getting sharper still
