QN5 Discussion [DISCUSSION] The QN5 Album of the Week!

(psssst…..Archetype)

What’s the album?!

Fuck I forgot again! Yeah, good shout Trashman, lets go for Sacrifice, since we’re celebrating the release of Bop Alloy, even if I cant get a copy Sad

You know, I need to get back on that album. If there’s one artist on QN5 that I’m guilty for sleeping on, it’s Stan. I really don’t know why, either. I don’t think he’s ever released anything that I can say I was even “eh” about. It’s not like I don’t have the album. It’s not like I haven’t heard it. But I know that I haven’t given it the attention that I’ve given the other QN5 releases.

I’m gonna make sure to give this album some more attention this week.

Sign Language is a work of pure art. The skill and mastery of story telling utilized in that song baffles me every single time I hear it. The entire thing plays like a movie in my mind, and it is crazy that every time I listen I discover some new element to add to my mental imagery.

(In case you forgot)

Any way back to my review. Like ‘How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb’, this album is still bumped on a fairly regular basis. “Sacrifice” to me is like the gigantic ‘album’ version of the song ‘Masochist’ by Tonedeff. Here, you get a glimpse of what the artist has to face with, from music politics, love-life, jobs, etc. Though at the same time as being a themed album, it also varies on a number of different topics and shows exactly what the artist does best.

In true QN5 fashion, the album contains few guest spots, but those that are on the album are truly needed for this record. Whether it would be the catchy hook from Deacon, or the ever-soulful singing from the crazy talented Steph, or even the conceptual geniuses which are Extended F@mm (though admittedly, before the album was released I though the song ’ Sign Language’ was going to be about dating deaf chicks haha). The people involved, from artists to producers, certainly glue this album together.

Substantial is, as I’m not ashamed to admit, one of my favorite artists in history. His rhymes are incredibly insightful and on-point. Even in his fun loving songs, he still manages to make your spine tingle in his lyrics. This is talent! “Sacrifice” is full of quotables that’ll make your hair stand up. Few artist can do this, and even when they can, none of them contain the same charisma that this dude possesses. Substantial could say the world is ending tomorrow and you’d believe, and at the same time, be flattered by his charming voice haha. He is truth.

If I am to criticize at all then I’d have to say, I’m not a huge fan of the song ‘4DozDatDonKno’. The beat scares me lol, and distracts me from what’s being said. This is just my opinion though, and it definitely does not want me to stop listening to the album front to back. It’s a true gem with little to no flaws.

(Stand outs: ‘Let It Go’ - personal favorite, ‘Chain Reaction’, ‘U Can Get It’, ‘It’s You (I Think)’, ‘Spaticus’, ‘Labor Pains’, ‘Q.T. (Quality Time)’, ‘Sign Language’ & ‘Hood Hope’)

Cheers Osiris.

Yeah, ‘Sacrifice’ is one of my favourite QN5 releases. I’ll get back with a review when I have given it a few fresh spins.

It is definitely not one of my favorite QN5 album, but I guess that is just a testament to the quality of their releases when “not my favorite album” still deserves at least a 9/10.

The messages of both “Labor Pains” and “Q.T. (Quality Time)” are so well presented and provide interesting takes subjects rarely covered in hip-hop.

“Spaticus” is a neck-breaker through and through. I love Stan’s battle rap style songs, and this is no exception.

Listening to this album again just reminded me why I am so damn excited for Bop Alloy; Stan was born to make beautiful hip-hop, and his QN5 debut portrays that beautifully.

I know you guys are REALLY busy with qk10 plan but a young and innocent remix with the tone verse would be awesome.(asterisk 5/ cassette verite ?other upcoming SOS project)

^ Love this song, it’s a soft one, but the thing about Stan is you always feel the positivity and love in his music. I never met him but he just seems like one of the good guys. ‘It’s You (I Think)’ has three heartfelt verses that were very relatable to me, especially at the time ‘Sacrifice’ dropped, and Kno laced it.

Other favorites from Sacrifice:

Resurrection of the House Party - Perfectly executed track; makes me miss all the good house parties I been to over the years.

Sign Language - eF@mm plus Algorythm is crack cocaine.

4DozDatDonKno - Awesome beat, awesome lyrics. It makes me think of what steam-hop would sound like if it was a genre. Wu-Tang would sound awesome on a remix of this one.

I know this is KNOWLEDGE’S topic, but I vote ‘Mass Instructions’ this week!

Mass Instructions is definately up next. I need to get back on track with this but overtime and gym sessions have been keeping me busy.

Ight, that’s probs for the best. People [including myself] keep forgetting to check this thread since the title stayed the same but I didn’t want to oversaturate the forum.

I’ll relaunch this Sunday with a ‘Mass Instructions’ thread. That album is a real treat on the ears.

this needs a major bump. Let’s get back on it!

Bump. Not enough QN5 talk on here lately. Let’s resurrect this.
Album voting starting now until Sunday. Go!

I want to listen to the Substantial/Burns EP again.

Go listen. Discuss.

I’m gonna re-hit this and get back to ya…

I went back and listened last week.

Do What We Gotta Do has grown on me. Wasn’t a fan at first, mostly because of the beat.

Logicool and The Memo (Move Me) still the great Substantial tracks that they were.

WWKYA Tour still reminds you of how Extended Famm kills other groups trying to great complex, well structured concept songs. Ridiculous.
