damn although i have to admit i am a bit salty at the album being sent early to certain people, it definitely does motivate me to go and help qn5 out in person when possible which is a good thing for sure

Man.. this album is ridiculous. Shpring, RoxTar (OG & Thrash), Nicotine, Only, Autumn Rules, Hiya, Ninety 5, Chanticleer <3
You forgot OverThere, which also has an awesome ending (first time i heard that sample in a hip-hop song, epic)
No samples. All original instruments. (the strings were replayed).
Damn, that is tooooo awesome, also love the harmonizing of the tune with the vocals at the very very end.
Which leads me to say another point, the production value on this album is thru the fucking roof! So many instruments, beautiful piano layered through out, etc. And every track throws something new and different.
Like Kno’s DIS album, the album was sent to a select few folks for various reasons. Mostly friends and family got these early, but certain cats like Houstonz, (who’s ordered 4 copies of R&D alone and has been one of the most die-hard blue schoolers in our community) were also included.
No one here should take it personally, it was only to spark discussion. If you pre-ordered, that means you pre-ordered the physical CDs with all the perks. Digital copies of the album will be available tomorrow on iTunes. Thanks for your support.

Word! That’s what’s truly awesome about the album. The arrangements, live instrumentation (flutes! drums! guitars! strings! etc etc) and genre hopping just make it a beauty to behold. Koke really got open on this joint.
If you want your mind blown… really listen to the live bass guitar on this album. It’s fucking sweet on a proper system.

Word! The shit that kid said is hilarious.

So, basically, If you pre-ordered, that means you pre-ordered the physical CDs with all the perks. Digital copies of the album will be available tomorrow on iTunes. Thanks for your support…we REALLY REALLY need it this time around.

Please don’t do this with Chico and the Man. I might chew my fingers to the bone trying to wait for the physical copies with a link sitting in my inbox. LOL
I am so happy that Tone got Kokayi involved with QN5, otherwise I would never have gotten the chance to hear the amazing unique sound that defines this album. Here is my little synopsis of each track:
The Onceler’s Theme – A very nice intro to the vibe of the album in that it meshes a little bit of everything together seamlessly. Combining a classic 8-Bit melody with that type of drum line that makes you look stupid to the car next to you as you proceed to not give a fuck. On top of this, a little boy (I am assuming Koke’s son?) defines robots and dinosaurs, and yes, it is as awesome as it sounds.
Shpring (What You Want) – Those infectious drums are back to kick ass while ambient sounds riddle the soundscape. I really like the second verse of this one. A ton of punchlines and references that made me stop and think “I see what he did there.”
RoxTar - What can I say about this track that hasn’t already been said. While I believe that the Thrash RMX is the only TRUE way to listen to this beast, the original version definitely allows me to focus more on the lyrics without being immediately taken over by the sheer badassery of the beat. I love songs that actually go through with a concept without going off topic, and this is a perfect example of that done PERFECT.
P.S. Thank god the guitar solo is also in this version.
Believe It – A very chill piano beat plays out while Kokayi has some fun with voice effects before busting into a dope ass hook. I love how the beat changes up throughout each verse, to accent certain lines and sections.
Wynter of My Discontent – This song is further proof that Koke’s style is seriously undefinable. I have never heard a song that mixes so many different styles and instrument sounds that don’t really belong together into such an aurally pleasuring piece of music. Flutes, pianos, straight club hit drums, and other instruments I can’t even name all mix completely fluidly with the lyrics and flow. It kinda reminds me of the randomness of a winter snow storm where there is a lot going on and things change from second to second, but at the end of the day it all makes sense together.
Nicotine – Damn the beats on this album are on some other shit. I love how there is a guitar that steadily grows as the lyrics get more and more intense. This one is much more “rap” than the earlier songs, but then again it is also more “rock,” “songwriter,” and any other random label you wanna give it. I don’t know of that makes sense, but in simple terms, I like it.
Only – Undeniably one of my favorite songs on this album. Fuck this beat is the sex. Period. I love the subject matter and anyone that can make a hip-hop love song in 2010 and not have it turn out corny as all hell deserves a high five from me.
So here Kokayi, *High five*
Also, lol at the end, “Hey what happened to the music?” hahaha. The outro is seriously one the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. It hella reminds me of the underwater level in Mario 64, and anyone that remembers what I am talking about will understand how nice it sounds.
Autumn Rules – I have had a while to let this one sink in now and it only gets better each time I hear it. Oddisee’s production is completely on point and totally meshes seamlessly with the feel of this album. Thanks for opening up on such a personal topic Kokayi, it is very obvious that you put a lot into this one.
Hiya – I don’t know who this Alison Carney is, but her voice on this song is definitely going to make me change that statement soon.
Drive – A very chill song that, as the name suggests, will be great to do some late night driving to. Kokayi did a great job with the wordplay on this one. I won’t ruin the metaphors going on in, but they are definitely well used and connected. And once again LOL at the outro.
Ninety 5 – Oh sweet McJesus. The obligatory only feature on an amazing QN5 album. Kokayi, Substantial, and Tonedeff verbally racing. 95 miles an hour? I am pretty sure that is a VERY low estimate. I love the beat, the chorus, all the verses, DEFINITLY my favorite on the album next to Only.
In 2003 I heard Velocity and my jaw dropped. In 2007 I heard Punk and my jawdropped. In 2009 I heard Crispy and my jawdropped. In 2010 I heard this, and guess what happened.
Yup, good guess.
OverThere (O.R.S.) – Damn why did I just name a favorite track before hearing this!?!?! This song is ridiculous. Great subject matter. Great lines. AMAZING beat. This is some real ass shit. And those violins!?!?! Wow, this is where Hip-Hop needs to be. Beautiful. Fuck autotune.
Chanticleer – DAMN, ANOTHER GREAT ONE! I honestly wasn’t expecting the little boy to sing at all on the album but wow, it really brings everything together so nicely. I love the second verse, it just flows over the beat so perfectly. Amazing end to an amazing album.
RoxTar (Thrash RMX) - <3
All in all I just wanna once again thank all of QN5 for crafting such beautiful music over these years.
You can’t just listen to each QN5 artist’s debut solo album; you FEEL their debut albums. You can tell that so much care and emotion was put into making this that you can actually feel it through the music. That is simply amazing.
