I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty strongly against any collaborations with other underground rappers. Frankly, I’ve never felt that just throwing another MC on the same song (even if it’s a very good one) some how made that song 2x better. The format where there’s one MC’s verse, then a hook, and then the next MC’s verse does nothing for me. There’s no real sense of collaboration and, indeed, those collabs sometimes happen without the two MC’s even being in the same state. Often the guest MC is just sent the beat and then sends back his vocals. In most cases the song just devolves into who out shined who which, as Tonedeff said, is 4th grade art. If Tone were to collab with another rapper, I’d prefer for it to be done more in the style of something like Predormitum. With a song like that you really feel that the MC’s worked with each other and made the song greater because of it. It astonishes me how some underground fans can enjoy great music and understand so little about what makes it great. Throwing Apathy or RA the Rugged Man or Pharoahe Monch in a Tonedeff song doesn’t make it better. In fact it could potentially make it a fucking mess. Anyway…

It may have truth to it, but who is to say that given the opportunity to collab each artist mentioned (whom ALL take the art seriously, obviously) wouldn’t take their time crafting a great record TOGETHER/WITH EACH OTHER?
People like Apathy, any member of AoTP, Canibus, Chino XL, etc take hip-hop seriously in a totally different way than Tonedeff does. If people don’t understand that, I don’t know what to tell them. I should also note that I’m talking mostly about some of the facebook suggestions. Fellow blue schoolers seem to have a little more sense.
That would be amazing, 2 real musical people and both with real skill on the mic. the male + female duets could be great too.
If this would happen, it probably get me even more hyped than how i am for CATM. And that’s saying something.
That would be really, really, really good. I don’t know why, but suddenly I want to see this collab more than any others that were mentioned. I don’t know why, but it just feels like they would be an amazing match.
