Chico And The Man › A Thousand Ships.

Whilst we wait for the next clue, I thought it might be an idea to look into the theme of the album with consideration of the title of the first single. I did some research and found this….

“Was this the face that launch’d a thousand ships
And burnt the topless towers of Ilium?
Sweet Helen, make me immortal with a kiss.”

- Christopher Marlowe (1590 and 1604)

A reference to the mythological figure Helen of Troy (or some would say, to Aphrodite). Her abduction by Paris was said to be the reason for a fleet of a thousand ships to be launched into battle, initiating the Trojan Wars…

There was plenty of symbolic references to consider as well. Including the gravestone of HCK (giving smoking-gun proof that HCK was a person), and the many characters that appeared and disappeared in the video.

So… Any thoughts?

I only saw the phone clip deacon posted and I noticed a couple guys disappear. Were there women disappearing in the video as well? I saw this article on “who really launched 1000 ships” and it mentioned brides who deserted their husbands…

Kind of hard to speculate without seeing the whole video, but I remember seeing females running away and guys disappearing from the short clip. Probably way off but figured I would bring it up anyways.

Artist: Tonedeff and Kno
Location: Savannah/St. Simons/Jekyll Island
Director: Matt Hobbs

Summary: Female lead is haunted by “ghosts” of every man that has ever used/terrorized her. To be shot on beach. Artsy, black and white, rain or shine. All roles non-speaking.

Need:
A: Female lead. Needs to have demonstrative non-speaking ability (ie: tears, rage, sadness etc.) Will be needed both days, travel, meals and hotel provided. Needs to be a TROOPER, no divas. The “concept” of the album is a Cuban immigrant’s attempts to fit into mainland US society, the female lead would preferably be Latina or Caucasian but we could probably work with anyone if its the “right anyone”. Pay $300-500+ all-in.
B: 1-2 male extras to play “ghosts”. Must be able to look stern, walk and look “interesting”. Pay TBD.

Saying that the name CunninLynguists is offensive and degrading to woman is beyoooond fuckin retarded. Not only is it a brilliant play on words but it’s the perfect name for a hip-hop group because of the numerous personifications of this genre as a woman, CL therefore give everything they have to it without expecting anything in return. Duh.

Anyway. Good find there bionic, it’s awesome to have confirmation of what we thought the theme for the video was. Can’t wait to see it released!

Actually this is hardly the first time someone’s misjudged the group for their name. Before this happened I had a female friend complain to me for posting a CL link on their board because of the name. And I’ve heard people say “I really didn’t want to check them out because their name was so silly/dumb/vulgar”. I was thinking of making a thread and asking if Kno/Deacon ever thought about changing their names cause of responses like that.

Although I am absolutely baffled how you can find the name misogynistic…did I miss something or is going down on girls sexist now?

I would hardly see that as conclusive proof of the “concept” of the album…I mean it’s a guy affiliated with CL/Tonedeff summarizing the album in a brief manner so to attract actors who probably have no idea who CL or Tonedeff or. Also, there’s no way this album is only going to have one basic theme or one layer.

So I am more interested in the fact that the members admit they’d change the name if they could go back, although this probably isn’t the place to do that.
