In the mean time I think there’s a lot we can do to assist in the promotion of this project. Blue Schoolers have e-circumvented to do a lot of great things for the label in the past.
There’s a lot of clever, creative, and passionate people on these boards and I figured a thread to lay down some ideas for promotion could be good. Whether their videos, guerilla marketing, or any other ways to spread the word lay it out here.
I have found a simple and effective way of spreading the word and increasing the audience. For the last couple of releases, I’ve used my “5-friends-in-5-minutes” approach to the QN5 “word-of-mouth” marketing style we’re encouraged to do. Basically, on release day of a new album, grab a link from bandcamp (or equivalent) and send it to 5 of your friends in 5 minutes. Just make sure they’re into hip-hop and have on some small level heard of QN5 (not essential though). Implore them to stream the album in its ENTIRETY.
The results can be much better than just “status updating” it and that be that. And in theory, doing this increases the potential audience by a power of 5! Can’t go wrong with that.

Maybe it would be cool to plan a day where we all do it at the same time, same hour. Like an Occupy FB STATUS - CATM PROMO day. We all do it at the same time, plan for a similar hour - it can also be “trending”?
the way Facebook works now, if we all “like” each others statuses (stati?) and make comments and crap it’ll jump to the top of our friends’ feeds and they’ll all be like “lol wut iz dis Chico and da Man?” and check it out.
The same thing happened when I said I was going to see “Human Centipede 2” the other week. Some random guy i went to highschool with saw all the comments and decided to rent it with his girlfriend.
If I can make someone watch that, I can make them listed to this upcoming album…
I think there could be two status posts with good distance of each other - 1) Just promoting it as a project you’re anticipating most. Show the enthusiasm, ect.
2) One promoting the release date when there is one which would be further down the line.
If this thread gets more busy, we can make a FB event with all of us in it reminding us when each post will be.

I was wondering if it would be possible to get a youtube video of the Chico And The Man ‘behind the curtain: one thouand ships’ so I can show all my friends? It would be a lot easier than sending them to the website and giving them the greek password.
Should we all post our facebook page links in this thread to add eachother? I’m assuming when we do these occupy fb status updates more traffic on them would be helpful in jumping them to the top for our other friends to see.

Na…just checked and it’s still password protected.
Why don’t we use December 13th as the day to do the first post?
Got a little over a month to get all of us connected via Facebook and event it for all of us. Then on the 13th we’ll do Osiris’ 5 minutes for 5 people thing at the same time.
In the mean time we can also use the month to do some other marketing tricks.
We should dedicate one night where all the +21 people go out with a marker with them. We all tag a bathroom/or multiple bathrooms that night with CATM Coming Soon, and their website. Take a picture of it, and compile a photo album with all the pictures.
People who see the photo album on any social media site will think it’s “hip” and “mysteriously cool” lol.
Tonight I’ll make a Facebook Group for this promo team.

When it drops, maybe I’ll be able to get it in a students-paper here?
Hell, I bet if you try hard enough you might get it in a nation-wide newspaper here in the Netherlands(the free ones would be the best, they have the biggest audience). Just don’t aim front-page, but a small article on the music page. Would need a good dutch text to send though! I can translate, but I’m hardly a good article writer, if anyone can help ?
Just saying, think BIG, not just Facebook, Twitter, but hell, maybe a local TV Network (You guys have a lot of those in the US, right?) a local newspaper, etc.

Yes, lets think big. FB is a nice start, but we can do better. Besides word of mouth, we need to plaster Chico and the Man everywhere. Kags idea ties in well.
Ya’ll kick butt for joining. Make sure at the Facebook group you vote on when to do the first “5 for 5” STATUS post. Let’s try to get all the votes in by Sunday.
Next week we can start discussing what the status will say and if there should be a link. Destruct laid some ideas on the group’s wall.

Though I wonder if tracks like 616 rewind should make the cut since it’s promoting CATM more so than Tonedeff. I’m not sure if punchline tracks are gonna be CATM. But for the most part that list is tight.

For the mark up all the bars night, how do ya’ll feel about Thanksgiving Eve? Apparently it’s the most popular night when people go out. We could it the weekend before so there’s a bigger impact for all the people to see it.
