undun is an existential re-telling of the short life of one Redford Stephens (1974-1999). Through the use of emotives and Redford’s internal dialogues the album seeks to illustrate the intersection of free will and prescribed destiny as it plays out ‘on the corner’. Utilizing a reverse narrative arc, the album begins as the listener finds Redford disoriented–postmortem–and attempting to make sense of his former life. As he moves through its pivotal moments he begins to deconstruct all that has led to his (and our own) coming undun.

This.
I can’t wait for this release either! I’ve always loved The Roots and they’ve never stopped growing - never stopped growing on me, and never stopped growing as artists. Though it’s different (and thank god for that! Music is meant to change - but for the good ) from previous releases, I kcuffin’ loved the sound on How I Got Over and really diggin’ the sounds I’ve heard from Undun so far!..
This is one of many albums I’m anticipating, 14 tracks deep and I agree the Roots have never EVER disappointed me. This will be no exception and if you’re really missing the Roots they released an album with Betty Wright on Tuesday that I hear is nice!
So stoked for this! (a lot of people haven’t heard about it yet because they just announced it like 2 months ago maybe?) buttt when do pre orders start?

They already started on itunes…which I don’t really see the point in pre ordering a digital release. I don’t think they have a pre order for physicals, at least I haven’t seen any.
After about 10 listens thus far the album is nothin short of incredible. Definitely m favorite Roots album so far (although I love them all). This is right behind “Death is Silent” and “Oneirology” for my favorites of the last two years. “Gas Mask” is closely behind “Undun”. Anyway I love how they ingrained the story of Redford Stephens in such a way that it’s almost hidden and you can fully enjoy and appreciate the album without even knowing the concep existed. I was really curious to how they would incorporate his story into the album. I must say they pulled it off beautifully. Also for those with an iPhone they have an Undun app with lyrics, videos and interviews that’s a great companion to the record.
