Tonedeff What’s Next For Tonedeff?

I know, I know.. Polymer’s barely been out a week but I’m in a state of excitement ok?

Looking Ahead

I haven’t decided what my next project will be just yet. Next up is new Polymer videos, more QUINTIC biz and I’d love to get a PAR single out by the end of the year.

Aside from getting Polymer into as many headphones as possible, QUINTIC is my focus. I’ve got some PAR stuff cooking, so hopefully there’ll be a single by the end of the year. Lucy Camp has another EP coming later in the year, and Fjer’s hard at work on her debut LP. We’re not fucking around. Like…at all.

Re: Fjer

Her upcoming album is fucking IN-SANE.

I think if you dig Phantom, you’ll love Hyperrealism.

More collaborations with Fjer & Lucy Camp? 100%

Re: TACM - I got too busy with Polymer and Pack focused on designing. We’ll be back in the fall

What we know:-

- Physical copies of Polymer to be shipped in August
—- POLYMER DOCUMENTARY! (Currently my number one most anticipated!)
—- QN5 RMX VOL.5!
—- Polymer Instrumentals
- Multiple music videos yet to come - Not sure if any have been confirmed?

On the Horizon:-

- American Tour Fall 2016?
- More Quintic! (Lucy/Fjer/??? - 2016)
- Hyperrealism! Single out in 2016?
- TACM in the Fall? 2016
- Extended F@mm 2017?
- Europe Tour 2017? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

What ever happened to?:-

- “I hear music in my head” This was really cool and I almost forgot about it.
- Trapazoyd/Commagang album (After all that emo stuff could be a refreshing break eh Tone?)
- BSBD related song. Memory tells me that there was a response akin to “that’s for another project”. What project might that be?
- Tone’s cartoon. It came up again in the AMA and seems to be a long-term ambition of his.
- Deffinitions Vol. 3. I think it’s safe to say that Tonedeff can no longer be under appreciated as a producer.

- The album that must not be named. I still get 1000 ships in my head from time to time and I can still picture that video.. it looked dope. It’s hard to know where to stand on this project, something that will realistically not go away and something people will not stop asking about until some closure is given - Sorry Tone, we’re obsessive fans. In the not too distant future it would be nice to know, at the very least, if there’s been any development on whether this album will ever see the light of day or not. If in the worst case scenario it doesn’t, I’d at least love to hear that song.

Anything I’m missing?

Extended F@MM album, which Tone mentioned somewhere in the AMA threads.

As far as the Album That Must Not Be Named, maybe with the release of proper Tonedeff album (and Kno shortly) there will buzz again around his name. I remember one of Kno’s main points in delaying it was that he didn’t want to drop it only for QN5 Blueschoolers to be the only ones that heard it. Only way to avoid that, IMO, was if Tone & Kno built up the fan base by dropping other projects. Perhaps this is the first stone in getting the name recogintion out there again to get others interested in it.

I was actually wondering about that BSBD track recently too.. and along with the “I hear music in my head” song.. maybe Tone has some Polymer-era songs he made throughout the process that didn’t fit the LP and he’ll let loose sooner or later.

I can’t wait for the Polymer Doc and more videos. wooooooooooo

I knew there was something fairly obvious I’d forgotten! I hope EF@mm happens because that first album was the reason I got into Tonedeff in the first place. I’m not sure if it’ll still be humour focused since we got Sign Language and Lucky - but I kinda hope it is.

And yeah you’re totally right about CATM. I remember that being said a lot and I guess I’m just wondering if that’s still the case, or if anything’s changed.. as sometimes things do change and we don’t always get the memo. Not complaining or being shitty, just curious.

Not worried at all about what’s next. He can have his vacation while we get Polymer going. I wouldn’t mind if he didn’t drop another track until the Winter or even 2017. This record needs its publicity.

The Needle Drop just made a new review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw9gtldMQfs

Go request Tonedeff - Polymer !

This thread wasn’t meant to add pressure just to be 200% clear. Tone deserves a long break for sure and I have enough on my plate to keep me busy for quite some time.

But Polymer is an adrenaline shot to Tone’s career and I’m pointing out that there’s exciting stuff on the horizon too. As for CATM, I’m just trying to address the elephant in the room.. :S

The Documentary and new videos are most definitely the things I’m most excited about next!

^ No doubt. Don’t get me wrong, I think we can all just take a second and realize how good it feels to see the activity going on in these forums again. The frequency of my logging in alone reminds me of the past exuberant days where all the artist’s forums were alive and well.

I think it’s absolutely awesome that there’s this much excitement about the future and the present. Like this blue school energy is happening again… Just pausing to let that sink in feels good.

I feel like Lucy Camp is about to explode and Tone has something special there that needs/deserves attention.

That music video was simple and dope and now has over 70k views and people asking “what’s next?”

Drop a track a week/every other week from Lucy with some QUINTIC features. Have Lucy drop a verse on a Polymer remix (5 Sisters? Moment? I think she’d sound good on those) and do some cross-promotion or something. *Something.*

That’s what you call a win-win.

Also, Kno recently posted on Twitter that they’ll be doing a West Coast run of their Doombox Tour in the Fall with 3 guests. Tone has been talking about going out west this Fall. I think we got the first guest down.. and I got a feeling that Lucy could be another.

^^Great call. She has a solid following on the left coast.

That would be insane if Lucy jumped on the CL tour, a really great way to get exposure from what I’m sure will be appreciative audiences - as well as gaining experience from CL who know how to tear a stage apart.

Well, I was totally wrong with assuming Tone would be one of their guests (or Lucy).

Yeah, I thought for sure he was going with them as he said he was going to be doing west coast shows in the fall. Maybe he’s just finalizing what dates he is able to do and will be announced later?

Maybe he’s gonna tour solo? Which would be preferable to me anyway, need a full set not just a couple of songs.

TONE will headline, Lucy will open. #nailedit

The CL dates unfortunately didn’t pan out, but we’re currently working on some shows for the end of the year. As soon as we know, you’ll know.

This may have been answered elsewhere, but is sending an e-mail to help@qn5.com the best way to make sure your address is correct? Just checking because I sent an e-mail there a few months back (on May 9 to be specific) with my updated address, but I never received any sort of confirmation or anything indicating that the pre-order will be sent to the correct place.

I’m also really excited to get this album in hand along with all the bonuses!

Any word on when these are gonna ship? Weeks/months? Very Happy

Well… the album that shall not be mentioned looks like it’s whats next for Tonedeff. In the mean time I’m still enjoying the fucking christ out of Polymer and all of its pieces. I’m shocked there was no mention in this thread of the Monotone remaster (which sounds AMAZING in comparison to the rough version we had all gotten used to over the years).

1. the projectionist was dope as fuck. “spiral” is absolutely awe inspiring, and probably one of the greatest songs tonedeff has ever made.

2. ive never bothered to listen to much of fjer’s, lucy camp’s, and hectic zenith’s discography, which is a mistake on my part and i should definitely get around to it sometime in the future.

3. i need shows.* idk why tonedeff would confirm a polymer tour if he would never get around to it

*= ive never been to a live show of an artist i like. keep in mind that im only 14 and would probably be banned from any other hip hop forum.. closest i got was when i coincidentally saw Long Beach Dub Allstars in key west while on vacation (ska punk is dope as fuck btw). but that was more of an appearance and less of a live show. hell, i don’t even know if ill enjoy seeing tonedeff, or any artist for that matter live. a bunch of sweaty guys cramped together looking up to a stage to see more sweaty guys prancing around. from a lot of the performances ive seen through recordings, it seems like a good time. but i assume that a live preformance would be really uncomfortable for me. take my begging for a tour with a grain of salt.

4. seriously, what happened to TACM? that shit was hilarious. i know tone and pack have a lot on their plate but idk if 1 hour a week is that difficult to put together

5. it’s kinda weird how everyone has been desperately awaiting CATM. im part of them, and understandably it makes sense, considering how it’s been delayed multiple times and has been in the making for 17 years; but it’s been nearly 20 YEARS since efamm’s last record. it is, by far, the most anticipated album in QN5 history. hell, i wouldn’t be surprised if it was one of the most anticipated hip hop record, period.

im a little nervous for efamm 2. efamm has the classic bars, punchlines, and boom bap style that we all remember. would we even like efamm 2? tonedeff has completely distanced himself from his early 2000’s material in turn for more emotionally deep, heavy music (both of which are great), pack hasn’t released a record in 10 years, substantial is…. actually about the same as he was in efamm, but better, and session is just gone.

im assuming that tonedeff will be in charge of the production. to further my point, out of the 9 songs in efamm, 2 of those songs (FYIRB and The Evil That Pens Do) were mostly electronic based. in polymer, the ENTIRE album was electronic.

this isn’t dissing polymer; i think the electronic style of production was the best path for polymer to take. but for an efamm record, i dont want deep, lush productions with layers upon layers of tracks forming a beautiful symphony of music. i just want production that’s fun, not deep.

is it even worth making an efamm 2, if everyone has moved apart stylistically?

6. i really want to hear “music in my head”. a lot of you talked about it in the hunter blog post, but i can’t find any traces of it.

7. can’t really comment on tones cartoon / webcomic considering i can’t find any remenants of those.

8. can’t really comment on BSBD cause i… never listened to them. not even sure if it’s worth it

9. for the shits and giggles, i want tones magnum opus to be on the next trapazoyd album. just a generic comedy trap track immediately breaks down into the greatest song tonedeff has ever made. would be pretty funny

10. since the album that shall not be named was semi-confirmed recently (and maybe another single inbound?), i worry that i set my standards too high for it. im expecting this shit to be BETTER then polymer. and polymer is already a 10/10. CATM is either going to be my favorite album of all time, or a major let down. i hope it’s the first option.

11. i didn’t really care for the monotone ep, but the remastered version was definitely an improvement on all fronts.

unrelated thought 1: does tonedeff appeal to millennials? especially with the rise of /mu/core genres (indie rock, math rock, shoegaze, abstract hip hop, folk, art pop), could tonedeff get his big break with a new audience? just a thought.

unrelated thought 2: bought a polymer shirt recently. everyone thought it was a fidget spinner.

unrelated thought 3. got my friend (listens to justice, daft punk, gesaffelstein, French house in general) to listen to polymer. he seriously digs the phantom ep. he truly believes that control is his favorite song of all time (tied with touch by daft punk)

unrelated thought 4: when i bought the polymer shirt, i asked tone to accept my follow request on twitter. 1 hour later, my twitter got suspended. amazing luck

unrelated thought 5: how the fuck is tonedeff is going to top polymer?

very unrelated thought 6: since tonedeff owns QN5, i may as well talk about it. tone, if you even check the forums anymore, was the spicasso album ever in development? if so, could you ever potentially release it?

very unrelated thought 7: i feel bad for tone. name 1 40 year old woman that is both attractive and has not had plastic surgery.

completely unrelated thought 8: i feel bad for QN5 fans. ive only seen 2 attractive female QN5 fans. what the fuck guys?

completely unrelated thought 9: why are so many QN5 fans white?

im sorry for making this so unbearably long

New music soon.

themanthemyth said:1. the projectionist was dope as fuck. “spiral” is absolutely awe inspiring, and probably one of the greatest songs tonedeff has ever made.

Agreed.

3. i need shows.* idk why tonedeff would confirm a polymer tour if he would never get around to it

Shit happens and nothing is so simple - especially touring without an agency that sets shit up for you.

4. seriously, what happened to TACM? that shit was hilarious. i know tone and pack have a lot on their plate but idk if 1 hour a week is that difficult to put together

A return has been teased multiple times over the past 2-3 years, but nothing has come to fruition yet. Hopefully they’ll at least come together to give it a proper send-off if nothing else.

im a little nervous for efamm 2.

I’m pretty sure Tone, Pack, and Stan have been slowly writing it for years, and I think Tone has said that a majority, if not all, of the production is already complete. Plus, if you had a wife and kid(s) or a label you were trying to manage, amongst other things, where would a passion project like an Extended Famm sequel really land in your list of priorities?

6. i really want to hear “music in my head”. a lot of you talked about it in the hunter blog post, but i can’t find any traces of it.

Tone teased it during a Livestream around 2012’ish I think? But yeah, I still have no idea what his plan for that one is. My best guess is it’s actually a Peter Anthony Red track.

8. can’t really comment on BSBD cause i… never listened to them. not even sure if it’s worth it

They have a lot of great stuff, whether you start with their first record A Heap of Broken Images that has some of my favorite tracks or go with NOIR which is possibly their best overall album.

10. since the album that shall not be named was semi-confirmed recently (and maybe another single inbound?), i worry that i set my standards too high for it. im expecting this shit to be BETTER then polymer. and polymer is already a 10/10. Hype is a double-edged sword for this exact reason - and probably part of why Kno and Tone haven’t wanted to even address it for years. The more it seems to come out of nowhere the better. What does that mean in terms of meeting expectations of long-time fans who’ve been along for the ride this whole time? Really depends on what you do and don’t expect. I personally expect a lot of it for the simple fact it’s fucking Tonedeff and Kno. The fact they’ve been working on it on and off for so long isn’t why I’m excited, but the fact that we could be getting CATM with 2020-level Tonedeff and Kno sounds awesome as they’ve both grown and ventured into different territories of music since 2003. I’d much rather have the 2020 CATM than gotten a 2010 CATM at this point, and I mean that in the most complimentary way, lol.

unrelated thought 1: does tonedeff appeal to millennials? especially with the rise of /mu/core genres (indie rock, math rock, shoegaze, abstract hip hop, folk, art pop), could tonedeff get his big break with a new audience? just a thought.

This isn’t simple to answer. Millenials and Gen Z definitely have an interest in various styles of Hip Hop and electronic music. Although Tonedeff’s music could definitely appeal to a ton of people the simple fact is reaching a larger audience can take a lot of money, luck, artistic sacrifice, amongst other practices that all tell you the music industry does not view music as art but as a product. Also, he’s not Macklemore.

unrelated thought 3. got my friend (listens to justice, daft punk, gesaffelstein, French house in general) to listen to polymer. he seriously digs the phantom ep. he truly believes that control is his favorite song of all time (tied with touch by daft punk)

Nice.

very unrelated thought 6: since tonedeff owns QN5, i may as well talk about it. tone, if you even check the forums anymore, was the spicasso album ever in development? if so, could you ever potentially release it?

There’s definitely a rough draft of Spicasso on a hard drive somewhere. I wouldn’t expect it to ever be released though.

very unrelated thought 7: i feel bad for tone. name 1 40 year old woman that is both attractive and has not had plastic surgery.

completely unrelated thought 8: i feel bad for QN5 fans. ive only seen 2 attractive female QN5 fans. what the fuck guys?

Your age is showing. Are women only of worth if they’re physically attractive to you?

completely unrelated thought 9: why are so many QN5 fans white?

I recommend thinking about this more and then going down a rabbithole of Googling.

bruh im just pointing out i dont think any of the women are attractive, not that i hate them or dont care about them as a person

also after thinking about the heap of images that conclude that qn5 fans are mostly white, i have concluded that i still don’t know. that’s why i asked the question in the first place

QN5 said:New music soon.

Most of America is white.

Also, yay new music!?!

was anyone at tone’s instagram stream recently?

themanthemyth said:was anyone at tone’s instagram stream recently?

No announcements. Just plugging Lucy Camp’s new stuff.
