CunninLynguists Kno’s digging: wow

(Note: leaving out certain info cause Kno doesn’t want it out I don’t think)

So I’m at my parents house right, and my mom is going through all her old vinyl and playing stuff that interests her. I don’t have any music going on in my room at the time so I was listening to what she was putting on and I suddenly hear something that rang a bell, but before I knew it I had forgotten about what I had heard. Then about 10 minutes later I hear something else that rang a bell, this time a chorus track. And I’m like: “Shit thats Kno!” so I go down and figure out what my mom was actually listening to. I recognized the parts that Kno had sampled, but I went crazy trying to figure out what songs he used them in.

Took me a while to finally figure out where he had used them, but it was really satisfying and it REALLY gave me a bigger appreciation for the digging kno does for some his haunting voice samples. And just as I finished typing this I heard another sample Kno used. Wow.

Does it drive anyone else crazy when they hear something that has been sampled and they can’t figure out where it was used?

today i watched casino and then heard a line that JS-1 sampled…I felt special

yeah but i tend to just go through my collection untill I spot a name that it could be, then go through the whole cd

had this recently with the bassline from Typical Cats - Typical Flows

but it was really satisfying and it REALLY gave me a bigger appreciation for the digging kno does for some his haunting voice samples

absolutely helps appreciate his genius. The way he can work with random shit

my bird was watching westside story a few weeks back- i caught the vocal sample from Tech N9ne’s Imma Tell in the song at the beginning, I almost felt like sitting through it to see what else had been used… didn’t tho

Free QN5 said:I caught the sample that IT and Akir used on the “One Remix” at the end of Rev Vol 2 on the radio… and I was like DAMN… they just put some drums over this and called it a day!

I heard that track on the radio a little while ago too.
I still really like that beat. You dont have to chop something up to make it good.

I don’t really listen to guitar music much, but any of yall know Blur - “Song 2”? that’s that song where most of the lyrics consists of the words “whoo-hoo” and the video shows the band playing in a very stormy little-ass room with shit flying all around. yall remember that? they actually stole that whole song from a German band called “Ton Steine Scherben”, the songs name being “Warum geht es mir so dreckig?”. As they couldn’t pronounce it and it was the second song on the Ton Steine Scherben LP they just called it song two. and never payed any royalties. Ton Steine Scherben are some 60 year old stoner hippies, so that really pissed me off. no offense to kno smpling tho, i think he should have the license to sample whatever the hell he wants and get payed for it! Very Happy

^^wow, I never knew that

afaik i’m the first person to actually make that connection public on the web. but let’s not be unfair: blur did add the “Whoo-hoo”-Part and that’s what made the song oh so special Rolling Eyes

yall remember vanilla ice going: “nah, wen didn’t sample queen for ice, ice baby, those riffs are totally different”? Laughing

dun dun dun dunda dun dun-click-DUN dun dun dun dunda dun dun

“It’s different!”
Laughing

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I loved Ice’s reasoning…“They added the extra dun in there so it’s totally different.”

Kno had shades of Vanilla Ice in the Fellationelles and that brought a tear to my eye.

If you listen to Saturday Night Fever, pretty much every track on that album’s been sampled.. also any album by James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, Funkadelic, The Meters, etc— but damn their tracks sound so friggin good!! plus good sampling makes it sound even better—

I think it was the current Levi’s commercial that had a song that was sampled on Sage Francis’s song “Bridle”. Had me singin the same damn words for hrs, until I finally figured it out.

Ayo I just figured out that the track Do You Know by Saigon uses the same sample as The Monument by Wu Tang Clan featuring Busta Rhymes!!!!!! The Saigon version is pretty straight forward, but the Wu Tang Clan version totally flips it up and chops it crazy nice and creative.. props!!!! It took me quite a while to figure that out.

QN5 Forums. Revealing other producer’s samples

Yo and you should listen to “I Got a Woman” by Ray Charles.. that’ll definitely put a smile on your face… Very Happy

i didnt feel like starting another sample thread. but i was wondering about the sample on hellfire. this song is a defining song of the artist sampled, and its well known that CL can’t really clear samples. its also essential to the song and i was wondering whether it is not possible that APOS could be screwed over by sumthing like this if it went the wrong way.

pffff no
so dont try

yo, I was watching this mario brothers show episode where inspector gadget comes in.. and they play inspector gadget’s theme song.. and then I realized that Jayo Felony samples the beginning of the Inspector Gadget theme song in his track One Shot Kill from his album Crip Hop!! Damn!

Daaaamn, I love that song. Probably my favorite beat on the entire album. Wish I knew where it came from Mad

havent recognized many qn5 samples..

but i was watching the squid and the whale and while the dad was doing that road trip and that reading they played this song and it sounded soo familiar…then i remembered it was from Tame One’s song “Concerto”.

Funny shit, I remember my college roommate and I were watching that show on TV where he said that, and he was actually arguing with me that it was different, like “oh, he’s right… you don’t hear it? it IS different” Laughing

You can use under 7 seconds of a sample without having to pay royalties. Well, you can in the UK anyway…

i recognized a QN5 sample listening to the godfather…some crazy shit…

I would imagine that they got clearence for that particular song. However, its something we probably shouldent discuss in the forums. I have trouble decifering between the “acceptable” sample talk and the “unacceptable” sample talk, so i figure i should just stop addressing the subject altogther.

a common netcee myth.

you can be sued for using a .5 second sample if they can prove you sampled someone else without their permision.

Don’t know about TOSTS, but I definitely heard Don’t Do It. I got excited, but my girlfriend was sleeping on my shoulder so I couldn’t start yelling or anything.

True.

I found a song that has the same sample as the sample that is throughout the lucifer remix. It’s osmosis by sims. Don’t know where it is from though.
