QN5 MEGASHOW 2006 (7.28.06) :: Official Megashow RECAP Thread ::

gmsofhydra said:Yo I had a really great time at the Megashow! Tone Pack and me were debating whether or not it topped last years (they definitely felt it killed last years). We definitely had more FUN doing the event than last years.

Last year:

+ Felt more like a “big” event with the bigger venue, video packages, surprise guests, etc.
+ The artists seemed to put more effort into their performances and the show as a whole.
+ More memorable moments.

This year:

+ More intimate setting; felt more like an “authentic” underground Hip Hop show.
+ No problems with merchandise.
+ No QN5 haters in the crowd due to a 3rd party headliner.

It was very nice meeting you too…Rob right? <—HOT!

ok so

this is the first chance i’ve had to come in this thread since the megashow happened…..been a crazy weekend…..pick up okwerdz at airport with pumpkinhead at like 1 in the morning…which was JFK so it was a hike and a half….then go back to jersey…...get up…..watch okwerdz eat a lot of food….hop on the train to cbgb’s….

it was my birthday at midnight…i went home and partied it up jersey style including wearing a bra as a hat…and a chair i’m told….also i was just informed about 2 phone calls i dont remember making…

then last night i was hosting the ScribbleJam preliminary battle in NYC…..

now i’m here….show was fun ya’ll…...shout to those i already met before that i saw again…the list is long…for the one’s i met the first times…i’m awfull with names…and i hope i didnt’ say anything toooooo off-putting….i know i said gross stuff to gina and her friends when they were on the way out….then i saw them gettin pizza later and was mildly embarassed…but gina was way wasteder…

shout to gina and someone else i forget and kags that bought me a birthday drink/shot…..uselesss its cool…i actually forgot i coudln’t find ya…..i remember bein at the bar like..wtf…then i forgot 2 seconds later apparently…word….

shows were dope…..i missed a lot of the performances being the social butterfly i am….

it was dope to get to be on stage at cbgb’s before it closes…..had fun doin’ the okwerdz songs….me and okweeezy have been fam for like….shit….3 or 4 years? and that was actually the first time we ever took a stage together…...due to geography and timing…..and it was on my birthday so…thats fuckin fab…..i thought “its my birthday buy me shit!” at the end of the set woulda got me more free drinks….. Crying or Very sad ...it was dope how Brian told the crowd “hey its seths birthday!!!!” instead of wrist…so everyone was nice and confused….chea!

if i remember anything else i’ll say it…i’m already told i forgot 3 or 4 phone calls and meeting 2 or 3 people so…feel free to fill me in anyone

squaller

wrist its all good. i mean, i dont even remember much. except buyin you a drink for your birthday and POSSIBLY seeing you at Rays. if i couldnt hear the performers- theres no way i heard you. hahahaha.

i was way wasted. but good times.

dont 4get i dont think my sis would be too surprised by anything you said. we did share a hotel last yr and that was interesting. hahah

haha oh word she was there last year? good then…..cuz i thought she was but i wasn’t sure…but was too drunk to ask..cuz drunken wondering is fun…....

but yea u guys came to the pizza joint after the show and me and okwerdz and some people who’s names i forgot (my bad cuz they were nice enough to buy me a beer i couldn’t even finish due to my ability to get hangovers before i even go to bed) and yea…i forget my point

Thanks for the beer you copped for me, Wrist. I was working my brief stint at the merch table (the most stressful job ever) and you just BLAM it on the table.

Also peace to Bry, thanks for the 21+ hookup (no homo)
and
Diana for trying to get me drunk for the second year in a row.

The show was completely awesome, I had a couple friends come with me and we all had a fuckin god damn good time! Plus I bought 9 QN5 CDs there, I would have bought more but there were a couple they didn’t have (at least not on the table) that I wanted. I loved PackFM’s freestyling, that was easily the most impressive part of the evening (for me anyway, since that is my biggest weakness in music).

I’m sure I saw a lot of you, but since I’m quite new to the forums I had no idea who anyone was.

Did anybody else wonder what the hell took the show so long to start? I just waited there getting my ears blown out by the treble from the crappy speakers waiting for the real music to start.

You could tell Tone wasn’t at his best when performing Case Closed, because he kept on having to take breaths where he was supposed to have been rapping, easy enough to say from the floor where keeping up was simple, but I’m sure on stage it becomes quite the task. He completely brought it back up with Most High though (I think that was after Case Closed, but the night isn’t completely clear in my head), that shit was so completely fast, I wish I knew the words to that song.

The entire experience was awesome, but next time I definitely want to have someone else drive, because driving in New York sucks ass, plus I got a parking ticket… lol. I recently found out that if I don’t pay it (because the car is newer than a 2000? Which also makes no sense to me), that I will get something sent to me in the mail (in Michigan), and it will go on my record. Can anyone confirm or deny this with a source?

i hate NYC tickets. im gonna appeal mine. you should do the same. cant hurt to try? if it doesnt work. they will be sorry! hahahah….

I’m sick. Ever since I got back from NY, I’ve been wanting to die, but had to work and all that nonsense. I haven’t even unpacked, yet, actually. Anyway…

The whole trip to NY was cool except every time Dave and I stepped foot into an airport, they gave us bullshit. Airlines were fucking over everyone last week, it seems. We almost missed our first flight to NY—they had already started booking us for another flight out from a different airport when a guy we talked to before told us to grab our shit and run for the gate with these seat request tickets. We flew past the security checkpoint and finally got our seat request tickets approved and were the last people on the flight, just minutes before it took off.

Then Dave slept for about 900 hours until the Megashow.

We also helped with the Megashow Zine a bit and got to meet Mrs. Deff who is super gully. Everyone was suffering from lack of sleep until the Megashow (except Dave, but he somehow started complaining about his knees giving out during the show, hahaha). But yeah, I think Tonedeff got like 3 minutes of sleep during the days leading up to the show, haha.

We get to CBGBs and Tonedeff starts sending us on these Making The Band missions before the show, haha. We failed at finding a place that sells miniDV tapes but were able to get change for a $20 bill (although nobody in line helped us out, you bastards).

Then we passed out the zines to the people in line and got to meet a lot of people from the forums—although the people who didn’t regularly post pictures, I didn’t recognize at first—Jimson should’ve rocked his avatar. After passing out the zines, we found a spot to watch the show and that was that.

I’m really liking that first song Session performed - he did it at the Oakland, CA show, too. Can’t wait to get that on a CD. Release that new mixtape already!

The place was fucking packed. It was quite a different QN5 show experience cause it was a room full of people who all happened to know the words to every song ever (except the girl who didn’t finish Masochist and caused Tonedeff to completely stop the song, haha). I’m glad we got to hear some new shit from Tonedeff, too. Asterisk 4 can’t come soon enough. And I liked how everyone was singing along to Politics and finishing tonedeff’s lines for him. I got that on video somewhere (plus some video of the last ever Mike Jones Game)

It was the first time I’ve seen some QN5 artists perform, like Mecca and Mr. SOS and I’m glad I got to check that out. “Rain” is one of my favorite songs so I was real happy to see that live.

PackFM and the live band was good shit. And of course, he always has to make a crazy entrance. I got some pictures from the top when he was hanging off the side of the railing so I’ll have to post those later when I get a chance. And the Freestyle Shit is on video somewhere—I love seeing that.

And CunninLynguists got there! I was hearing all day about flight delay after flight delay for these people, so I’m glad they made it and were able to perform. It was cool hanging out with Kno and phayde, too. It was really nice meeting you guys. Also it was the first time I’ve seen The Plague on stage. And they did “Most High” (minus PackFM, haha).

...
Alright, work is calling me right now so I better end this. Just know that Delta sucks donkey balls. And Paul C. or whatever the fuck, who works at LaGuardia, WE GON’ SEE YOU.

I liked how we went to JFK and that girl who worked for Delta there was talking about this book called The Perfect Nightmare and said the perfect nightmare is working for Delta.

Also know that QN5 puts on the best shows ever. And Tonedeff and Mrs. Deff are the nicest people on Earth.

Ah-ha! So that’s my punishment for getting there too early and waiting in the front of the line…

I don’t know how that happened. Dave was passing them out to people as they got in the club for a little bit and then we just went out and passed them to everyone in line. Might wanna see if Mrs. Deff has some left over, but I think we passed most of them out.

Actually, to recap the whole NY trip in one word: BYAHHHHHHH!

I swear, I heard that shit like 1000 times before I got back to California. Tonedeff assured us he would say it on stage, too, so we hear all these people in the place yelling BYAHHH (in the crowd and on the mic). Then later on, Substantial misses a couple of lines during a song and just yells “BYAHHH!” to finish it off. That shit was comedy, hahaha.
