Despite
the extended absence of deeper subject material, Tonedeff proves consistently
throughout the disc that he has enough dope punch lines to keep rhyming
for days on end. Really, I mean that. But the EP isnt totally without
genuine substance.

Tonedeff
Underscore [EP] [2003]
[BUY NOW]
Fresh off the success of Extended Famm's Happy Fuck You Songs [EP], Tonedeff prepared the official precursor release to his official debut, Archetype.
Like the previous release of Hyphen, Tonedeff creates another compilation of his hard-to-find and never-before-released tracks on Underscore. This record was intended as an accompanying piece to his actual album, with remixes, skits and mixtape freestyles. Unlike the majority of "Battle Rap" content found on Hyphen, the majority of tracks on Underscore are actual songs.
The range of songs and their circumstances are a sordid lot. Included, are the near-miss hit "Shag" that was dropped from the official soundtrack of Austin Powers 3: Goldmember, the Kay-Slay rejected "Turn It Up! [Kay Slay Drop]" and the now classic CunninLynguists cut, "Love Ain't (f/ Tonedeff)," that is heralded as one of Tonedeff's best recorded performances to date.
Most of the other tracks presented here are Archetype misfits that didn't quite fit the mood of the album during it's 6-year creation. Nonetheless, Underscore serves as a credible piece of listening history for those seeking to keep track of Tonedeff during his 2001-2003 era.
