Auralarians come from all over the world. This one’s from Connecticut, and has pilgrimmaged his way to almost every Tonedeff show for the past couple years. His name is Kontrast, who’s been chosen as our Auralarian Of The Month! We caught up with this devout Auralarian for a brief interview, and here’s what happened.

1. Whats your name and where are you from?

Dave, aka Fr0g aka Kontrast, I’m from Connecticut.

2.Whats you favorite Color?

Blue.

3. How’d you start listening to Tonedeff?

I think I actually met him in a hearme chat on RapMusic.com like years ago. Everyone was tryin to get him to freestyle battle them, cause apparantly he was already a legend back then haha, so I checked out his site and from then on, I was hooked.

4. Which Tonedeff albums do you own?

Tonedeff – The Monotone EP Sampler (MP3.com OldSchool Collectors Item haha), Tonedeff – Heads Up/Ridiculous CD Single, Tonedeff – Hyphen EP, Tonedeff – Underscore EP, Extended Famm – Happy Fuck You Songs. Also the Asterisk CD’s and some other non official Tonedeff CDs.

5. Have any hobbies?

Running HipHopMag.Com, Graphic Design, Emcee’ing, Going to as many shows as possible, among other things.

6. Speaking of ‘going to shows,’ we’d just like to point out that you’re at almost EVERY QN5 related show…How many times have you seen Tonedeff live?

Too many to count haha, probably pretty much every show he’s done in the past 2-3 years in the NYC, or Boston area, minus a few, and plus many others where he was in attendance, like Stronghold shows.

7. Any favorite Tonedeff-related stories?

The first time (I think) I went to go see him at a show was pretty interesting. It was a few years back, I drove into the city from CT with my cousin, for a show going on down by the water in Manhattan I think. There happened to be a pretty bad storm on the way, with some crazy downpours and tornado warnings. Basically, I had to drive 35 MPH on the highway all the way to NYC because I couldn’t see, and then the highway became flooded, so they had everybody getting off at one exit, which took about 2 hours alone.

So, ended up somewhere in NY lost, got back on the highway, eventually got to the show at 11:30pm, while it had started at like 8pm. As soon as I walked in the door, was when he was going up to perform, luckilly I just made it in time! That was also the first time I met Pack, and he was real cool and gave me his Freestyle Marathon CD for free, for all the trouble of getting to the show haha. Last but not least, the highlight of that show, was outside afterwards, the cypher with Tonedeff, PackFM, Immortal Technique, Mecca (I think), and Supernatural! That shit was ill!

8. What’s your favorite Tonedeff song?

Very hard choice. As of right now, I think I’d say either Give A Damn, TNT, or Heavyweight.

9. Can you explain what an Auralarian is?

A tonedeff fan. I can’t remember the actual definition haha… I know it’s a combination of 2 words I believe though, Aura, and I think the other one might be Aural, meaning an aura or quality surrounding the person, and relating to sound and being perceived by the ear.

10. Not bad at all. Does your girlfriend dig Tone’s music?

Not applicable currently!!! haha. But – YES, my old one was into his music, I took a picture of her with him and Pack at a Cunninlynguists show a while back actually.

11. How do you feel about Hip-Hop music right now?

The mainstream shit, for the most part – I’m not feeling at all… however, I feel there’s more than enough dope shit to listen to on the Underground/Independant market, it’s just too bad the good music doesn’t get the recognition it should.

12. Do you think Archetype will be worth the wait?

Yea, definitely, I’ve been waitin for years haha.

13. What other genres of music do you like?

I mainly listen to hiphop, but there’s some rock stuff I like, mainly old Rage Against The Machine.

14. Finally, if you could be Tonedeff for a day, what would you do?

Go impress people with my ability to spit insanely fast, and probably go slap around some label exec’s and A&R’s for being morons.
