QN5 @ Rocksteady recap

Posted Aug 1 2002

We Are Fucking Exhausted. But Damn…what a rush.

We’d like to give a huge shout out to everyone that came to show love, pickup a cd and shirt, and even to say hello to us at our booth this year at Rocksteady. We’ll definitely be back next year, even bigger and better. All the new product was selling like heaters in Antarctica.

We got plenty of compliments on the look and operation of our booth this year, so I gotta give it up to the entire QN5 team and major credit especially to PackFM, Mrs.Deff & Gatez for busting their asses the entire weekend. They really held it down for the baby blue.

RECAP

Friday, 1st show at Hammerstein Ballroom was cool. All the battles took place, and were entertaining. (Shout out to Okwerdz for doing his thing in the RSC MC Battle…he definitely got jerked in the finals. Nice MEETIN ya!). We premiered the new ASTERISK Mix CD by DJ JS-1 and all 4 of the new QN5 Shirts. “No Rich Relatives”, “We All Sound Like Eminem”, Tonedeff and PackFM were an instant hit with the crowd. I can’t even begin to count how many people stopped in their paces to get a closer look.

Kno & Deacon... The Knitting Factory Show was OFF THE FUCKING HOOK!! Respect to everyone that showed love during the Cunninlynguists NYC debut performance. People were definitely moving to the WRFF classics like “616 Rewind” and “Thugged Out Since Cub Scouts”, and Deacon’s new shit had ‘em throwin bows. (literally). Seeing KNO sing “My Buddy” was hilarious. Nuff respect to them for driving out from ATL/KY. I rocked the fuck out of my set as hard as I could. I rocked 3 new joints from Archetype. I did “Disappointed”, “Issawn” & “Bring It” The Baby Blue definitely stuck a lightpost up in the show’s figurative ass when we did “Fuck You I Rhyme Better (Remix)” with the full Extended Famm roster onstage for the 1st time. PackFM, Session & Substantial rocked it beautifully that night.

Tonedeff killin it... Lemme just say that Cashmere The Professional can perform his fucking ass off. That motherfucker right there knows how to rock a show. Respect to Cash. Voltron was dope, they did their thing nicely…1st time I’d seen em with a DJ. Neat. Poison Pen took it home (As usual) with the final set of the night. “Fuckin You Up” is the shit. We sold a gang of T-Shirts and Asterisk CDs, and then used Kno’s caucasian decent to hail a cab home. It worked, we got home, and of course I didn’t get any rest when I should have. Instead we listened to more music once we hit the crib and played HALO.

Saturday

THE OUTDOOR CONCERT WAS A FUCKIN BLAST.

Everyone came to rock hard. The QN5 booth did heavy hustling and mad people should be rocking the new gear and CDs back home by this time right now. We signed autographs, met mad people, polly’d, took pictures, jumped around alot, yelled, screamed…and overall had a great fuckin time. Our show was cut off in the middle of my last song due to technical difficulties, but we managed to stick a lightpost up in that shows figurative ass as well. I was very happy with the way it all popped off. The CROWD WAS TREMENDOUS. Looking out from the stage, it looked like a sea of head from the stage to the back. Mecca took out a chick’s eye with a flying CD in the crowd. It was pretty gully.

Domingo, Deacon, Tonedeff, Mrs. Deff, Elite, PackFM, Session Mrs. Deff rocked a sign on her ass that read, “QN5 MUSIC: Where Even White Girls Have Booty”, which worked extremely well to attract attention. And we had the full staff onhand to work the crowd and the booth. Mrs. Deff, Domingo, Gatez, Pack & Co., Mecca, Session, Johnny Cock & Staff from Boiling Point Distro killed it that day. Security snatched the battery off the video camera from Elite right before the last song, but we got the entirety of the show up to that part anyway. We Made alot of great connects that day, so expect bigger and better things from us. Everyone rocked hard that day. Dilated Peoples, Mad Skillz, Beatnuts…it was an honor to rock the same stage as those cats.

When we got back to the crib, we played music for hours, ate chinese and Kno & I had it out via a series of furious death-matches playing HALO. (He won..I’m convinced white dudes are natural born snipers).

Sunday

Deacon, Tonedeff, PackFM, Mrs. Deff & Kno @ Hammerstein Ballroom... Sunday’s concert was ok. MOP definitely tore that bitch down. The booth did neat. Suddenly, my lack of sleep for the past 4 days starts to catch up with me. I start to speak in simple phrases.

We go home. We eat chinese. Play music. Watch South Park movie. Play 4-Man HALO Deathmatch, with Deacon, Kno & Gatez. Mrs. Deff unleashes her world-famous cupcakes, and we call it a night. I sleep kindof ok. I work in the morning so i need more sleep, but can’t. Need paycheck.

We’re definitely gonna do it again next year. The Baby Blue is official.

Once again, thanks to everyone! See ya soon!

Peace & Respect.
Tonedeff.
